The Department of History at Luleå University of Technology is part of the Division of Social Sciences at the Department of Business, Technology, Arts and Society. In addition to history, the division consists of the subject units of law, political science and economics with a total of about 70 employees. Research at the various subjects within the division is focused on various social science aspects of the environment and natural resources. As a teacher in the History Department, you are involved in the implementation of our programs. You use your expertise to support student learning in order to achieve the educational goals. Inspiring students to develop is stimulating and, as with other challenging tasks, you get a lot back. It's a job with varied tasks that will constantly provide you with opportunities for both personal and professional development. The unit is in an expansion phase and needs to strengthen the teaching of the subject. Subject description History encompasses the study of humanity with an emphasis on the development, organization and change of societies over time. The subject is particularly focused on the history of technology at the interface between natural resources, humans and the environment, including both how technology has affected humans and society and how humans have affected the development of technology. Duties and responsibilities You will work with teaching and related tasks in different history courses - from local to global history in different time periods. Teaching includes course planning and development, course responsibility, examination and supervision. Most history courses are given as distance courses in the form of stand-alone courses but also within teacher training. Furthermore, you will work in a research project that examines how hydropower development during the 20th century affected cultural landscapes in northern Sweden's river valleys and the conditions for people living and working there. Qualifications Qualified to be employed as a lecturer are those who: - a university degree of at least 180 credits or equivalent - have demonstrated teaching skills Other meritorious qualifications - Completed higher education pedagogical education equivalent to 7.5 credits or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge - Documented competence and experience in teaching history - Documented competence and experience of teaching at a distance, including course development in digital environments - Solid experience in researching the history of hydropower, with particular regard to its role in local communities - Strong experience in oral history, including data collection through interviews and witness seminars, and the ability to independently plan and conduct research trips for such data collection - Familiarity with combining the aforementioned methods and sources in an interdisciplinary way with methods for collecting and analyzing written and material source materials - familiarity with theory in the field of historical studies of technology, science and the environment - Good ability to communicate research-based content in an accessible and popular way, and experience in producing visually structured teaching materials - Good collaboration skills - Good knowledge of Swedish and English Information to be provided The position is fixed-term full-time during the period December 1, 2025 through November 30, 2026 or as agreed and with the possibility of extension.
