Development engineers sought for rocket engine and ammunition technology at Nammo Raufoss
Raufoss, Norge
Type of Employment Full-time
Job position Development engineer
Work model On location
Application due date 23 November 2025
Are you the one?

Nammo is one of the world's leading manufacturers of specialty munitions and rocket engines, with aerospace and ramjet technology as part of its portfolio. Nammo Raufoss, which is the largest company in the Nammo group, has co-located development, production and test center. We have around 230 skilled engineers working with development, and new products are developed with close follow-up of analyses in areas such as advanced fluid and material technology, complex and innovative design solutions, and modern production methods. As a development engineer with us, you follow the products closely from concept phase to qualified product. You will also be involved in influencing design choices and carrying out testing.

The analysis department, which covers several disciplines, now constitutes a strong professional environment with around 40 development engineers, which will continue to increase significantly in the coming years. We are a strong professional environment with good support from experienced engineers, and have professional development in focus. Nammo Raufoss is a growing company and we need analytical engineers to meet this development.

We want to expand our team and in this context are looking for more candidates to staff more disciplines.

We are looking broadly for candidates with a background in Propulsion, Aerospace Engineering, Ammunition and trajectory calculation, thermodynamics, heat transport, fluid mechanics/CFD, general physics/mechanics, mechanics, solid mechanics, product development, structural analysis, materials science, systems safety, technical safety, RAMS, statistics, mechanics/physics, applied mathematics or similar.

Ballistic analysis: The field of internal ballistics for rocket engines is about designing solid rocket engines based on fuel properties and nozzle technology, as well as ramjet technology, so that the engine provides the right pressure and thrust.

Thermal analysis: Rocket engines produce large thermal loads with high temperatures that affect materials and product function. Interest in the development, analysis and testing of materials and insulation systems that will withstand high-speed flight lasting several minutes. Load conditions are developed in collaboration with teams. Insulation systems with analyses are validated through tests in our test facility for air-breathing high-speed engines.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD): We do advanced CFD analyses on missile geometry, air intake, and combustion chamber. We are looking for engineers with a background and experience in high-speed/compressible flow and experience with CFD.

The work will include aerodynamic analyses, air intakes with complex shock structures, combustion chemistry analyses as well as analyses of the complete engine system installed in the missile.

Structure and materials: Our products are subjected to structural loads with high temperatures, pressures and stresses that affect materials and product function. Calculation and dimensioning of these is important to map in connection with design choices and function. Structural engineering is involved in the development of new products from the early phase to testing and qualification.

RAMS/statistics: Our products must meet strict requirements for Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS). In addition, there is often a need to do statistical analysis, fault tree analysis, risk analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis). RAMS engineers follow products from early development to production to ensure high quality and robust solutions.

Tasks:

You participate in a project team where you are the responsible engineer within your field of expertise. You'll support our projects by defining and performing relevant analyses and communicating the results back to the project team and customer. As a development engineer with us, you will also gain good insight into the other technical disciplines and gain a holistic understanding of our technology and product development processes.

We are looking for you who have:

- MSc or PhD in relevant disciplines. BSc candidates with relevant technical experience can also be considered.

We believe you will thrive with us if you are:

- Enterprising, have integrity, take responsibility and have the ability to implement

- Good at communicating and collaborating with others

- Analytical with a systematic work methodology

- Willing to learn and curious

- Creative and solution-oriented

This is what we can offer you:

  • Good career opportunities in a growing company

  • A working environment with a culture of making each other great, based on our values; commitment, precision and care

  • A solid and secure workplace with competitive conditions

  • Flexible working hours

  • Good arrangements for pension savings, and parental leave

  • Health insurance

  • Company sports teams and social events

  • Possibility to rent company cabins through the industrial park

  • Free at Easter and Christmas in exchange for working in 12 minutes every day

Are you ready to join our team?

We want to get in touch with you as soon as possible, so interviews will take place on an ongoing basis. Please emphasize in your application which field you are interested in. Please apply before the deadline, November 23. We look forward to hearing from you!
