Nammo is a recognized actor within military ammunition, missiles and space applications. Within the European space market NAMMO supply products spanning a wide range of chemical propulsion systems. We have operations in Norway, UK and Ireland for development and production of space propulsion systems as well as fluidic and mechanical components for in-space propulsion systems and launchers. Nammo Raufoss (Norway) is undergoing significant growth, and the Aerospace Propulsion R&D Chemistry & Materials department are seeking talented engineer to be responsible for the propellants used in our space development programs.
For the development of the next generation of the Roll and Attitude Control System (RACS), based on green propellant for the VEGA launcher family, we are looking for engineers to lead and coordinate the technical work related to the propellant used. For this program, we are using highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), a propellant that we have been using for almost two decades. This program involves both system and component level activities, including tank, thrusters, valves and tubing with both in-house development and supplier follow-up. In parallel, we are developing a new design of a bipropellant engine, where even higher H2O2 concentration is planned to be used in combination with Ethanol or bio-kerosene.
The role combines hands‑on technical responsibility for all development aspects relative to the propellants. This includes chemical reactions, material compatibility, life cycle, handling and risk associated, interaction with the propellant suppliers and our customers and cross‑functional coordination within the project teams in a highly demanding aerospace environment.
Main responsibilities and tasks:
Technical responsible for testing, qualification and evaluation of chemicals and materials used in the propulsion system
Responsible for the competence building and training in subjects related to the performance and use of propellant in the systems
Prepare, review and present technical documentation to customers.
Work systematically with requirements and technical specifications
Work with customers and suppliers both in Norway and abroad
Qualifications:
MSc or PhD within chemistry or material science. BSc or other relevant technical background may be considered.
Experience from development, manufacturing, assembly, integration and testing of propulsion components and systems is a strong advantage
Experience from space projects development life-cycle and ESA (European Space Agency) review processes based on ECSS, documentation structure and standards is desired
