Would you like to be the driving force that brings together culture, activities, and volunteerism in our municipality, while also serving as the municipality’s public face at our service center?
In Nordre Land Municipality, we have a vibrant and diverse cultural and organizational life, and we now have an open permanent 80% position as a volunteer coordinator/service representative.
We are looking for a dedicated and people-oriented volunteer coordinator who will strengthen the interaction between the municipality’s cultural services and local communities. The position is based in the Culture Department and will play a central role in facilitating positive experiences, inclusion, and activities for all residents of the municipality. As a volunteer coordinator, you will serve as the link between the municipality’s various departments—such as the library, movie theater, volunteer center, and the broader volunteer community—as well as sports organizations and individual volunteers.
This is a dual-role position, which also involves working as a service representative at the municipality’s service center.
Job Responsibilities
The volunteer coordinator component of the position will involve:
- Collaboration and Networking: Serving as the municipality’s primary point of contact and supporter for local clubs, associations, and cultural organizations.
- Mobilizing for cultural events: Coordinating volunteer efforts for cultural events, festivals, celebrations, and special occasions.
- Inclusion and co-creation: Develop projects and low-threshold offerings that lower the barrier to participation in activities, with a particular focus on children, youth, and the prevention of social exclusion.
- Ensuring a supportive framework: Manage and further develop the municipality’s procedures in this area and handle administrative tasks in specific areas.
- Communication and tools: Promote and operate the municipality’s digital solutions and directories for cultural activities and volunteer work.
The role of service staff member will involve:
- Public service and switchboard duties, welcoming visitors at the reception desk.
- Case management, handling the cash register, and accepting payments.
- Coordinating some mail and library services.
Qualification Requirements
- A 3-year university or college degree (bachelor’s degree) in cultural work, project management, social sciences, or a related field. Substantial relevant experience may compensate for the educational requirement.
- Documented experience in the cultural sector, event management, or coordinating volunteers.
- Knowledge of the public sector is an advantage.
- Proficient with technical and digital solutions.
- Experience working in customer service and interacting with people.
- An advantage is a good understanding of how nonprofit organizations and the public sector function and collaborate.
- Excellent communication skills in Norwegian and English, both verbal and written.
Personal Qualities
- Enthusiastic relationship builder: You are passionate about the cultural sector, communicate easily with all types of people, and are able to inspire and engage others.
- Qualities of a structured project manager: You thrive on juggling multiple tasks, have strong execution skills, and work systematically.
- Flexible team player: Since cultural events often take place when others are off work, you must be comfortable with a flexible work schedule that includes some evening and weekend work.
Personal suitability will be emphasized.
