A temporary, full-time (100%) position as a public health nurse is available in Nordre Land Municipality. The temporary assignment is initially for 6 months from the start date, with the possibility of extension.

The purpose of the position is to promote the physical, mental, and social health of children and youth through health promotion and preventive work, as well as to contribute to the early identification and follow-up of health challenges in collaboration with parents/guardians and interdisciplinary services.

Organizationally, the position is part of the municipality’s school health service, under the Department of Health and Preventive Services. The work is primarily carried out at the municipality’s schools and in accordance with current plans and priorities. In addition, the position will involve some follow-up with refugees.

The school health nurse works independently within defined areas of responsibility and bears professional responsibility for their own assessments. The position is subject to applicable legislation, including the Health and Care Services Act, the Patient and User Rights Act, the Health Personnel Act, and the regulations governing the municipality’s health promotion and preventive work.

Job Responsibilities

  • Carry out the school health service’s legally mandated duties in accordance with the Health and Care Services Act and applicable guidelines.
  • Carry out health promotion and preventive work aimed at students.
  • Be accessible and visible to students through low-threshold services.
  • Conduct individual consultations, health examinations, and follow-ups.
  • Help identify mental, physical, and social challenges.
  • Collaborate with parents or guardians as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with the school, the PPT, child welfare services, the primary care physician, and other relevant agencies.
  • Plan and conduct instruction and group-based initiatives in the areas of health, life skills, and sexuality.
  • Follow up on the vaccination program in accordance with national guidelines.
  • Document and maintain records in accordance with applicable laws and municipal procedures.
  • Participate in professional development, quality assurance, and service development.
  • Provide follow-up care for refugees.

The position requires flexibility regarding working hours and work location within the framework of the service, and the employee may be reassigned within the service area as needed.

Qualification Requirements

  • Registered nurse with advanced training in public health nursing.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents is desirable.
  • Knowledge of health promotion and preventive work in the school health service is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and national professional guidelines.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration in municipal health services is an advantage.
  • Good basic digital skills.
  • Experience with electronic health records (HSPRO) and relevant specialized systems is a plus.
