Are you the one?

Are you a structured and analytical controller with an industrial background? Join Nynas as a Turnaround & Pitstop Cost Controller and play a key role in managing the financial performance of one of our most complex and high-impact operations. Help ensure cost control, financial accuracy, and budget adherence during our scheduled refinery turnarounds.

About The Role

At Nynas, we perform a major turnaround every four years- a large-scale, planned shutdown of our refinery operations to carry out essential maintenance, inspections, and upgrades. These events require intense cross-functional collaboration and precise coordination under a tight schedule.

As Turnaround & Pitstop Cost Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of turnaround projects. This includes developing and managing budgets, tracking and forecasting costs, identifying variances, and ensuring full compliance with financial policies. While the role is primarily operational, it also includes tactical responsibilities such as refining cost control methods and enhancing reporting tools.

You will work independently within the framework of our financial guidelines and collaborate closely with planners, engineers, procurement specialists, and project managers. The position is based at our Nynäshamn refinery and reports to the Turnaround Manager.

This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to join a committed team where your insights will directly impact operational efficiency and cost performance. You’ll contribute to a well-established company while continuing to grow professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of cost control and financial reporting for turnaround-related activities.
  • Develop, manage and monitor turnaround budgets, including cost estimation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Track daily turnaround expenditures, analyze deviations from the budget, and propose corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with procurement, planning, and execution teams to ensure accurate cost allocations and forecast adjustments.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports and presentations for management, providing insights into cost trends and risk areas.
  • Support post-turnaround financial reviews, capturing lessons learned and identifying improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure all financial practices are in compliance with company accounting standards and internal policies.

About You

To thrive in this role, you are structured, analytical, and results driven. You excel in fast-paced environments and are comfortable taking ownership of financial responsibilities in complex technical projects. You are an effective communicator who can explain financial implications clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

You also bring a proactive, hands-on approach to problem solving and enjoy developing smarter ways of working within established frameworks.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in cost control or financial analysis, ideally in industrial projects or turnarounds
  • Strong proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • High level of independence and ownership in managing project financials
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Swedish
