Søndre Land Municipality is seeking a dedicated physician for an exciting combined position as municipal chief medical officer and nursing home physician.

The position is a full-time (100%) permanent role and is initially divided between 50% municipal chief medical officer duties and 50% municipal physician duties at Hovlitunet. If you prefer a different distribution, this can be considered.

About the Position

As the municipal chief medical officer, you are the municipality’s top medical advisor and a key supporter of both political and administrative leadership. You will contribute to the development of health services and the municipality’s work in public health, emergency preparedness, and community development.

As a nursing home physician at Hovlitunet, you will have primary responsibility for the medical care of the residents, working closely with a competent and dedicated interdisciplinary team.

The position is organizationally part of the municipal director’s staff.

Job Responsibilities

As the municipal chief medical officer, your responsibilities will include, among other things:

  • serve as the municipality’s medical advisor
  • contribute to public health, infection control, environmental health, and emergency preparedness
  • participate in community planning and the development of the municipality’s health services
  • collaborate with the specialist health service and other partners
  • contribute to the training and supervision of LIS1 and ALIS physicians

As a nursing home physician at Hovlitunet, your responsibilities will include:

  • have medical responsibility for the follow-up and treatment of residents
  • conduct medical rounds, admission assessments, and medication reviews
  • work closely with interdisciplinary teams and family members
  • contribute to effective patient care pathways, professional development, and quality improvement efforts

Professional Collaboration

Søndre Land Municipality is part of Miljørettet Helsevern IKS (MRHV). As a municipal medical director, you will become part of a regional professional community alongside municipal medical directors and advisors from Gjøvik, Østre Toten, Nordre Land, Gran, and Lunner.

You’ll have access to a strong professional network with regular meetings, knowledge sharing, and collaboration on development and emergency preparedness efforts.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who:

  • holds a Norwegian medical license
  • preferably is a specialist in public health
  • has experience in public health work and/or municipal health and social care services
  • have a good knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • are fluent in Norwegian, both verbally and in writing

If you are not a specialist in public health medicine, you must be willing to complete your specialization after being hired.

Practical Information

Upon hiring, applicants must submit a police clearance certificate where required, as well as a self-declaration regarding tuberculosis, MRSA, and measles in accordance with applicable regulations.

Applicants with foreign degrees must have approval from HK-dir for permanent employment.

The position includes a six-month probationary period.

Interviews are scheduled for August 25, 2026, or may be conducted on an ongoing basis.
