Søndre Land Municipality is seeking a lifeguard for a permanent 7% position, as well as on-call substitutes for our public swimming program at Fryal. The program operates during the winter months in the pool at Fryal School. Public swimming is a popular activity for many, especially families with young children.
Job Details:
As a lifeguard for public swimming, you will be one of two lifeguards operating the public swimming program in Søndre Land Municipality. There are always two lifeguards on duty. Public swimming is held every Friday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and runs during the winter months from week 42 to week 23. Working hours are approximately five hours every Friday during the season. Pay is calculated as an average and is paid monthly throughout the year.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as a lifeguard for swimmers and ensure the safety and well-being of all swimmers in the water.
- Help ensure proper lifeguard coverage.
- Ensure that tasks are performed in accordance with quality standards and applicable laws.
- In the event of accidents or incidents, you and your colleague are responsible for providing proper first aid, ensuring the safety of guests, and calling for external assistance if necessary.
You are also responsible for:
- Ticket sales
- Interacting with pool guests
- Supervising the locker rooms, saunas, showers, equipment storage, pool area, and other hallways and corridors.
In addition, we would like you to explore opportunities for improving our services, ideally through dialogue with guests and colleagues.
Required qualifications:
- Strong swimming and diving skills—must pass a lifesaving test annually
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Norwegian
- You are responsible and decisive
- You remain calm in stressful situations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Recommended requirements:
- Valid lifesaving certification and first aid course (the employer will arrange this if necessary)
- Experience in similar positions is preferred
- Proficient with computers—various software and IT tools
