SSAB is running a major development project with the goal of increasing production in the rolling mill by streamlining the flow of sheet metal over the cooling beds. As a graduate worker, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to this multi-million project and work closely with both the production and the development team. Your work will have a real impact, and the results may be implemented directly in the business.
Location Oxelösund.
Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the future of the planet and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges connecting our cities and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production and are committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be important in realizing this goal and thus contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.
The assignment
The purpose of the thesis is to create the right conditions for the overall development project. This is done by optimizing the number of piles in the subject halls and pile types before the quaternary mill, with the aim of minimizing the spread of subject properties within the piles. This in turn should lead to the highest possible filling rate of the cooling beds.
The work includes the development of a dynamic optimization tool (e.g. in Excel) and analysis of current processes and limitations. The degree project is an integral part of the larger project, where you get the opportunity to develop concrete solutions that can be implemented directly in the business.
Scope: 20 weeks (30 credits)
Period: Spring semester 2026
Your application should include a personal letter and CV.
The work takes place mainly on site at SSAB Oxelösund.

Some words from your supervisor
"My name is Nathalie Ramos Larsson and will be the supervisor in this thesis. My journey at SSAB started in 2008 and since 2023 I work as a development engineer at the Logistics Development department. Before I started working as a development engineer, I studied logistics at Linköping University where optimization and simulation were the subjects I enjoyed the most. I am looking forward to being part of the thesis and together with my lovely colleagues will do everything to support you. "
