Are you the one?

Are you dedicated and curious, and looking for a rewarding job in control systems and programming at a company committed to a more sustainable world? Then this job might be right for you!

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining us on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the planet’s future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future—in our homes, in the bridges that connect our cities, and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we’re proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we’re aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. That has to change. We have therefore developed the world’s first fossil-free steel production process and are committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in achieving this goal and thereby contribute to the green transition of the entire steel industry.

About the Position

Together with your colleagues, you will work on system solutions—including both new designs and modifications/updates to existing control systems—problem-solving, plant development, and the commissioning of new machinery at our facilities. You will primarily participate in two different workflows: project-based work and work order-based work.

Collaboration with the production sections/departments is important, and your primary points of contact will include maintenance technicians, operations technicians, external suppliers, internal staff, and contractors.

You will be part of the Systems Engineering section within the Sheet Metal Engineering department. The group consists of approximately 19 systems designers/engineers who work with the Rolling Mill’s facilities. We work in area groups where mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers collaborate across three different production departments. We offer you challenging and stimulating workdays where you—either independently or together with other designers—will be responsible for system design and the automation of machines and facilities within the Rolling Mill. With us, you’ll have the opportunity to get hands-on experience and follow projects from concept to commissioning.

Selection and interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, and the position may be filled before the application deadline.

About You

  • You have at least a 2-year college degree in Automation Engineering, or a vocational degree or mechanical engineering degree with a focus on automation technology, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with programming in PLCs and industrial safety control systems, such as ABB Pluto.
  • Experience with C/C++ is a plus.
  • You thrive on technical challenges, have the ability to quickly grasp complex problems, and are solution-oriented in your work.
