Are you the one?

Do you want to contribute to the quality and development of the steel of the future? We are now looking for a driving laboratory engineer for Research Testing in Oxelösund!

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining us on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the future of the planet and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges connecting our cities and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production and are committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be important in realizing this goal and thus contributing to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

As a laboratory engineer in research testing, you will perform metallographic investigations within the section and support operations in mechanical testing. You will also contribute to improvement work within the department. The work involves both independent tasks and close collaboration with laboratory technicians, engineers and testing staff.

Through strong collaboration throughout the testing department, you contribute to the company's success, especially in the exciting time we face with the climate change in the steel industry. The position is temporary but there is a good possibility of extension depending on the needs of the business.

Your main responsibilities

  • Conduct various types of metallographic examinations of steel, both routine and advanced and document the results in a technical report.
  • Support the mechanical testing in their daily operations, preparatory steps or quality assurance of the testing flow.
  • Work towards clear requirements on quality, lead time and delivery precision.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements of working methods, routines and equipment.
  • Participate in internal and external contexts such as projects and committees.
  • Establish and maintain good documentation such as instructions, reports and meeting notes.

About you

  • You have a university degree in materials technology, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or equivalent.
  • You have good communication skills and enjoy collaborating across different functions.
  • You have an analytical, solution-oriented and structured work style.
  • You have an interest in practical laboratory work and technical measurement methods.
  • You need to be able to communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as this is part of your daily work
  • It is an advantage if you have experience from laboratory work, metallography, mechanical testing or sample preparation.
