SSAB - Laboratory Engineer, Wet Chemistry

Type of Employment Full-time
Job position Laboratory Engineer, Chemistry
Work model On location
Application due date 21 July 2026
Are you the one?

Do you want to use your chemistry expertise to make a real difference? SSAB is in the midst of one of the industry’s biggest climate transitions—the journey toward fossil-free steel production—and is now establishing a brand-new wet chemistry laboratory in Luleå. We are looking for a laboratory engineer with a strong background in chemistry who wants to be there from the start and help develop analyses, methods, and workflows that will become an integral part of SSAB’s fossil-free future. Here, you’ll get to combine analytical chemistry, quality, and societal impact—for real.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining us on a journey. A journey we believe is crucial for the planet’s future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for our societal development and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges connecting our cities, and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. That must change. We have therefore developed the world’s first fossil-free process for steel production and have committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in realizing this goal and thereby contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

About the position

As a laboratory engineer in wet chemistry, you will play a central role in building SSAB’s new wet chemistry laboratory. You will be involved from the start and help shape the laboratory’s working methods, structure, and technical solutions. The role includes responsibility for the selection and implementation of analytical equipment, as well as the development, validation, and quality assurance of wet chemistry analysis methods in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.

An important part of the role is to develop and implement the LIMS system for wet chemical analyses, with a focus on traceability, quality, and an efficient analysis workflow. You will work closely with both operational and technical functions and contribute to creating a modern laboratory adapted to the demands of the future.

This position is ideal for you if you want to work closely with chemistry and analytical work—from method development and chemical principles to reliable and quality-assured results—while also being part of SSAB’s journey toward fossil-free steel production.

Your main responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and construction of a new wet chemistry laboratory.
  • Develop, implement, and validate wet chemical analysis methods.
  • Implement and further develop LIMS for chemical analysis.
  • Ensure quality, traceability, and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Be responsible for the validation, verification, and commissioning of analytical equipment.
  • Develop requirements specifications for the purchase of laboratory equipment
  • Participate in the selection and procurement of laboratory equipment.
  • Serve as a chemical specialist and internal advisor on analytical matters.
  • Introduce and train new laboratory staff in methods and work procedures.

About you

  • University or college degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience with wet chemical laboratory work and an understanding of analytical principles, method development, and quality assurance.
  • A structured and meticulous approach to work with a strong focus on quality.
  • Experience working in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 and LIMS is a plus.
  • Analytical and solution-oriented with a curious approach to chemistry and technology.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team and to take responsibility for tasks from start to finish.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • A Class B driver’s license is required.
