Would you like to work in a laboratory and be an important part of the analysis chain behind the development of the steel of the future? We are now looking for a meticulous and dedicated laboratory technician for the metallography laboratory in Oxelösund!

Becoming part of the SSAB family means embarking on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the planet’s future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future—in our homes, in the bridges that connect our cities, and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we’re proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we’re aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. That has to change. We have therefore developed the world’s first fossil-free process for steel production and have committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in achieving this goal and thereby contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

About the Position

As a laboratory technician in research testing and metallography, you will perform metallographic examinations of steel samples. You’ll be part of a team of experienced technicians and engineers and will participate in analyses that support production, research, and product development.

Through strong collaboration within the team, you will contribute to the company’s success, especially during this exciting time as we navigate the climate transition in the steel industry. The position is temporary, but there is a good chance of extension depending on the company’s needs.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Perform various types of metallographic examinations of steel, both routine and more advanced.
  • Work toward clear requirements for quality, lead time, and delivery accuracy.
  • Contribute to maintaining order, equipment maintenance, and improvements in work methods and procedures.
  • Document results and maintain good traceability in the laboratory environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A high school diploma in technology, industry, natural sciences, or equivalent experience in industry.
  • A high degree of attention to detail and quality awareness.
  • An interest in hands-on lab work and technical tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate easily with various departments.
  • Basic knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • Enjoys hands-on work and has an interest in materials and technology

Experience in the following areas is a plus:

  • Metallography
  • Sample preparation
  • Microscopy
  • Work in an industrial or laboratory setting
