Would you like to help shape the future of maintenance in a changing industrial environment? With us, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to more reliable, sustainable, and efficient maintenance—while growing in your professional role. We are now looking for a maintenance engineer for our operations in Luleå.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means embarking on a journey—one that we believe is crucial for the planet’s future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future—in our homes, in the bridges connecting our cities, and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we’re proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world’s first fossil-free process for steel production and have committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in achieving this goal and thereby contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

We are looking for a maintenance engineer for the Maintenance Development section. Our mission is to systematically and fact-based develop maintenance work in close collaboration with production and production-related maintenance. Through analysis, improvements, and long-term approaches, we contribute to increased operational reliability, better resource utilization, and a stronger maintenance culture.

In the role of maintenance engineer, you will play a key role in identifying opportunities for improvement, driving change, and translating analyses into concrete actions.

Your main responsibilities

  • Map and analyze existing maintenance operations to identify the current situation, needs, and potential for improvement
  • Lead and coordinate improvement initiatives in collaboration with relevant functions within production and maintenance
  • Conduct root cause analyses, follow up on recurring issues, and contribute to long-term solutions
  • Develop work methods, methods, and processes that strengthen preventive and planned maintenance
  • Participate in the implementation of new technology, digital tools, and system support in maintenance work
  • Participate in development and investment projects where the maintenance perspective is an important part of the overall picture

About You

  • We are looking for someone with a college degree in maintenance engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering/automation, or another relevant field.
  • Experience in industrial operations, maintenance development, operational reliability, or improvement initiatives is considered a plus.
  • As a person, you are curious, proactive, and organized. We value a solution-oriented approach, a strong focus on safety, and a willingness to contribute to continuous improvement.
  • You enjoy working both analytically and practically, and have the ability to see connections, prioritize, and drive issues forward.
  • The role involves interacting with many different people, so it’s important that you’re a natural at collaborating, building trust, and communicating clearly.
  • You can also take a leadership role in improvement teams and help foster engagement among others.
  • You are fluent in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
