SSAB - Maintenance Engineer/Maintenance Developer
Oxelösund, Sverige
Type of Employment Full-time
Job position Operations and Maintenance Engineer, Facilities
Work model On location
Application due date 22 September 2026
Are you the one?

Would you like to combine technology, analysis, and problem-solving in one of Sweden’s most advanced industrial environments? At SSAB in Oxelösund, we’re now looking for a Maintenance Engineer / Maintenance Developer who wants to help shape the future of maintenance. Here, you’ll work closely with production, large machinery, and experienced colleagues in maintenance, engineering, and process development.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means embarking on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the planet’s future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future—in our homes, in the bridges that connect our cities, and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we’re proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we’re aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. That has to change. We have therefore developed the world’s first fossil-free steel production process and are committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in achieving this goal and thereby contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

About the Position

In this role, you’ll analyze technical problems, drive improvement projects, and develop work methods that increase operational reliability at our facilities. You’ll play a key role in the shift toward more proactive and data-driven maintenance, while seeing the impact of your work directly on the business.

If you enjoy understanding how technology works, identifying the root causes of problems, and turning ideas into real improvements, there are great opportunities here to make a difference. As a maintenance engineer, you’ll be part of a team of three maintenance developers working to develop methods, work processes, and system support to create a safer, more available, and more efficient facility. Together, you’ll support an organization with approximately 140 employees in both preventive and corrective maintenance.

The role is varied and combines analysis, development, and change management. One day you might lead a technical investigation into recurring malfunctions; the next, you might conduct a training session or drive an improvement initiative in collaboration with the business. You’ll work closely with managers, technicians, and maintenance staff, as well as with colleagues in process development, projects, and engineering.

Your main responsibilities

Lead and participate in improvement projects and development teams

Conduct analyses of disruptions, losses, and technical problems, and identify long-term improvement measures

Develop methods, work procedures, and system support within the maintenance area

Develop, analyze, and present key performance indicators and decision-making documentation

Initiate and lead technical investigations

Develop and conduct training programs and serve as an internal instructor

Participate in operational and facility projects

Support managers, technicians, and employees in development and improvement efforts

About You

We believe you have a strong interest in technology and are driven by a desire to understand how things work. You are curious, analytical, and enjoy solving complex problems together with others. To succeed in this role, we expect you to:

Have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering—such as mechanical engineering, maintenance engineering, or a related field—or equivalent experience

Have a genuine interest in technology, operational reliability, and improvement initiatives

Are analytical and enjoy working with data, investigations, and root cause analyses

Take initiative and turn ideas into concrete actions

Are an inspiration who engages others in change and development efforts

Thrives at the intersection of technology, people, and business development

Communicates clearly and builds trusting partnerships

Experience in industrial maintenance, operational reliability, or improvement methodologies is a plus.
