Would you like to help develop SSAB’s existing and future strategically important production facilities in Sweden and the U.S.? We’re looking for an experienced design engineer in mechanical engineering. Location: Oxelösund.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining us on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the planet’s future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future—in our homes, in the bridges that connect our cities, and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we’re proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we’re aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. That has to change. We have therefore developed the world’s first fossil-free steel production process and are committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in achieving this goal and thereby contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

About the Position

QT Center, the Quench Technology Center, is a department within the SSAB Special Steels division whose core operations revolve around the production facilities that manufacture advanced steels. The SSAB facilities that produce these steels are located in Oxelösund, Mobile, Borlänge, and Raahe.

We are now looking for an experienced mechanical and structural engineer who can help us design and develop primarily our quenching lines, straightening lines, and furnaces. There are always numerous opportunities and challenges on the drawing board to increase production volumes and develop next-generation products.

The position will primarily focus on existing and future production facilities in Oxelösund (Sweden) and Mobile (USA).

Your main responsibilities

  • Design complex production machinery.
  • Plan and organize orders for necessary materials, services, and contracts.
  • Actively contribute to the construction and/or modification of facilities with the goal of improving the unit’s performance and availability in the safest possible way.
  • Participate in the department’s/section’s safety efforts
  • Participate in the commissioning of machinery and facilities.

About You

  • You have a strong technical background with at least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, design, and the calculation of facilities. Preferably with a college degree in mechanical engineering. You are proficient in Inventor/AutoCAD and can apply both internal and external standards.
  • You have a safety-first mindset based on your own experience and risk assessments in accordance with the Machinery Directive, CE, and other ISO standards
  • You are down-to-earth and can collaborate with and assist our maintenance departments by providing technical support
  • You thrive in a project-based environment where you are open to a dynamic work setting and can adapt to changing conditions
  • You are fluent in both spoken and written Swedish and English
  • Experience in project management is a plus.
