SSAB Special Steels is looking for a driven and dedicated occupational health and safety engineer who wants to help develop and improve our work environment. We offer an exciting and varied role where you’ll have the opportunity to make an impact at both the strategic and operational levels. This position is central to SSAB’s journey toward becoming the world’s safest steel company. You will play a key role in translating these goals into concrete improvements across our operations. As part of our specialist function, you will work to analyze and manage complex occupational health and safety challenges. Working closely with the business, you’ll provide advice and support in identifying risks, proposing measures, and creating action plans to improve the work environment. Your collaboration with the business is crucial to ensuring a safe and sustainable workplace for all our employees.

About the Position

As a workplace safety engineer with us, you’ll play a broad and important role supporting managers and employees in creating a safe and healthy workplace. You will work both operationally and strategically to develop the safety culture, follow up on occupational health and safety goals, and ensure compliance with legal requirements in dialogue with the business.

The role also involves collaborating with contractors, external parties, and authorities to ensure that SSAB complies with applicable legislation and internal guidelines.

Your main areas of responsibility

  • TRIF and LTIF, including trend analyses, reporting, and follow-up.
  • Investigations and analysis of accidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and recommendations for corrective actions
  • Management and follow-up in the IA system, as well as ensuring that safety statistics are used for continuous improvement and providing reports on accident statistics.
  • Advising managers and operations on occupational health and safety issues, including interpretation of legislation, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
  • Developing, planning, and conducting training programs in occupational health and safety, safety culture, and risk management.
  • Coordination of occupational health and safety matters related to contractors and subcontractors, including ensuring that they meet SSAB’s requirements.
  • Liaison and collaboration with regulatory authorities regarding inspections, reporting, and occupational health and safety-related issues.
  • Developing occupational health and safety procedures, instructions, policies, and advisory documents, as well as creating action plans to address complex occupational health and safety challenges.
  • Contribute to our structured annual cycle for health and safety work—where you will both develop systems and work methods and support the business in recurring activities related to legal requirements, ISO standards, and health and safety practices.
  • Drive learning and improvement by applying best practices and sharing knowledge derived from both internal experiences and external benchmarking.
