SSAB in Borlänge is seeking a Railway Network Manager for the Rail, Road, and Planning Division for a fixed-term position of approximately two years. This role is central to ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant railway infrastructure within one of Sweden’s most important industrial systems.

About the Role

The person we are seeking will be responsible for SSAB’s internal rail network in Borlänge. The role involves overall responsibility for the facility’s operation, safety, and regulatory compliance, including ensuring compliance with the requirements set forth in the National Infrastructure Permit by managing and developing the safety management system.

You will also serve as the representative for the railway facility to the management team, which is the legal infrastructure manager.

You will play a key role in coordinating strategic and operational track maintenance. You will have budgetary responsibility for operations, maintenance, external contractors, and consultants.

To succeed in this role, you must be based at SSAB in Borlänge, and the position will include some on-call duty for incidents and near-misses.

Examples of job responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for the functionality and availability of the railway infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and permits (including those from the Swedish Transport Agency)
• Management and development of the railway facility (tracks, switches, signals, etc.)
• Ordering and monitoring maintenance and investment measures
• Risk management and safety work related to railway operations (including emergency duty)
• Liaising with contractors and other stakeholders
• Participating in audits, permitting issues, and compliance monitoring
• Documentation and systematic infrastructure management.

We are looking for someone who has

• Relevant college education or equivalent experience in rail and infrastructure, e.g., from industry, government agencies, or consulting
• Solid knowledge of railway regulations and permitting processes
• Experience in project management or client management
• Fluency in spoken and written Swedish
• Strong collaboration skills and experience managing multiple stakeholders
• Ability to work in a structured, independent manner with a holistic perspective
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

• Experience with industrial railways or private rail facilities
• Industry-specific training such as TSM and OPA
• Knowledge of facility data or management systems
• Technical expertise in railway infrastructure, such as signaling technology
