Are you the one?

As a research engineer, do you want to be involved in developing SSAB's future product range in close collaboration with the sales and production organizations? Right now, our new production facility in Oxelösund is being built to reduce future carbon dioxide emissions. Take the chance to be part of the journey and send in your application. Location Oxelösund.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the future of the planet and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges connecting our cities and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production and are committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be important in realizing this goal and thus contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

About the position

SSAB will be able to deliver fossil-free steel in 2027 and a major piece of the puzzle is that the metallurgy in Oxelösund will be converted from ore-based to scrap-based. The investments in metallurgy in the coming years bring new interesting challenges as the company needs to ensure the production of existing cutting-edge products and of course explore new opportunities.

Right now we are focusing on developing new products and at the same time preparing the transition to a scrap-based metallurgy. The focus will shift more and more towards transition projects as we get closer to the start-up of the new plant.

Your main responsibilities

  • Develop next generation products together with colleagues.
  • Drive product development projects while keeping up with the development of new simulation tools (external and internal) and introducing them into the business.
  • Participate in external research projects together with research institutes and universities.
  • Improve product quality within the existing product program and expand the dimensional range.
  • Be a sounding board in material issues with other development functions within SSAB.

About you

  • As a person, you are structured, curious and service-oriented and have the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others.
  • You are a civil engineer specializing in materials science, materials physics or equivalent.
  • You have experience of research and simulations such as ICME (Integrated Computational Materials Engineering) in materials technology.
  • Experience in product and/or process development is desirable.
  • You are willing to combine production-related work with theoretical simulations.
  • You have good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing.
  • Computer skills are a requirement.
