Are you the one?

Are you passionate about industrial automation, production optimization, and advanced control systems in a state-of-the-art greenfield project with the overarching goal of producing steel entirely fossil-free? We are now looking for a Systems Developer who wants to join our project team and play a key role in Luleå’s new mini-mill project throughout all project phases and, after commissioning, work on production development and system maintenance. Location: Luleå.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means embarking on a journey—one that we believe is crucial for the planet’s future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future—in our homes, in the bridges that connect our cities, and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world’s first fossil-free steel production process and have committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in achieving this goal and thereby contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

As a systems developer, you will serve as a technical expert working closely with process, automation, and IT/OT stakeholders. You will support the project from early design through commissioning and acceptance testing, ensuring a robust and complete system delivery.

This is a role where your expertise truly makes a difference. Your responsibilities will be tailored to your skills and interests. You’ll have the opportunity to work on an international industrial project with significant impact.

The role involves collaboration with leading OEM suppliers and technology partners, and you’ll have opportunities for professional development in advanced automation and digitalization.

Travel is part of working on an international project.

Your main responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert in Level 2 automation systems throughout all project phases.
  • Support design work in close collaboration with production automation and equipment suppliers to ensure technical compliance.
  • Participate in system development, including model development and system integrations.
  • Contribute to test planning and test execution as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide on-site commissioning support.
  • Conduct acceptance tests together with customers and partners.
  • After commissioning, work as a systems developer.

For this role, you need knowledge and practical experience in some or all of the following areas:

  • IT/OT systems, particularly Level 2 automation systems that optimize production processes.

  • Production processes and OT/IT for: steel smelters, hot rolling mills, cold rolling mills, mathematical models, layout calculations, or algorithms and application logic.
