The position is central to SSAB's journey towards the goal of becoming the world's safest steel company. You will be a key player in translating these goals into concrete improvements in the business. As part of our specialist function, you will work to analyze and manage complex work environment challenges. Working closely with the business, you will provide advice and support in identifying risks, proposing measures and creating action plans to improve the working environment. Your work together with the business is crucial to ensure a safe and sustainable workplace for all our employees. As a work environment engineer with us, you have a broad and important role where you support managers and employees in creating a safe and healthy workplace. You work both operationally and strategically to develop the safety culture, follow up on work environment goals and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
The role also includes collaboration with contractors, external parties and authorities to ensure that SSAB complies with applicable legislation and internal guidelines.
About you
We are looking for you who have a few years of experience working as a work environment engineer, work environment specialist or in a similar role. You have an academic degree in the field of occupational health and safety or another relevant education and experience that is considered equivalent.
To succeed in the role, we would like you to have:
- Good knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and its application in industrial activities.
- You have a good knowledge of ISO 45001 and are also familiar with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, which gives you a holistic understanding of occupational health and safety, quality and the environment.
- Analytical and solution-oriented ability, with the ability to identify and deal with complex occupational health and safety issues.
- Good communication skills and enjoy working both independently and in teams.
- Experience in running work environment projects and implementing work environment improvements.
- Previous experience of contact with authorities and work environment investigations.
- B driving license and good digital skills, including Office 365, the IA system and other relevant work environment systems.

Your main responsibilities
- Strategic and operational health and safety management linked to our TRIF and LTIF safety objectives, including trend analysis, reporting and follow-up.
- Investigation and analysis of accidents and incidents, including root cause analysis and recommendation of actions.
- Management and follow-up in the IA system, as well as ensuring that safety statistics are used for continuous improvement and providing reports in accident statistics.
- Advice to managers and operations in work environment issues, including interpretation of legislation, risk assessments and safety rounds.
- Development, planning and implementation of training courses in occupational health and safety, safety culture and risk management.
- Coordination of work environment issues related to contractors and subcontractors, including ensuring that they meet SSAB's requirements.
- Contact and collaboration with authorities on inspections, reporting and work environment related issues.
- Development of work environment procedures, instructions, policies and advisory documents, as well as the development of action plans to address complex work environment challenges.
- Contribute to our structured annual cycle for health and safety management - where you both develop systems and working methods and support the business in recurring activities linked to legal requirements, ISO standards and health and safety practices.
- Drive learning and improvement by applying best practice and disseminating knowledge from both internal experiences and external comparisons.
