If you share our passion but don’t meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might be the perfect fit for this role, or another as we grow.
At Stegra, we’re not just building a plant, we’re proving that sustainable industry is possible. And to do that, we need people like you.
Join a team where safety comes first. Where we support each other, learn as we go, and make space for everyone to grow and contribute. This is your chance to be part of something big - while being closer to nature and leading a balanced, purposeful life.
What you’ll do
Right now, we are looking for a Maintenance Lead for our Cold Mill Maintenance team at our Boden site. In this role, you will report to the Maintenance Manager and work within our Maintenance & Reliability function. The team is responsible for keeping the cold side of the plant safe, stable, and reliable – from pickling and cold rolling through annealing and finishing.
About the Cold Mill
The Cold Mill is where steel becomes precise and is one of the last sections of the steel production. After hot rolling, coils are cooled, cleaned, and rolled thinner to meet tight customer requirements for thickness, shape, and surface quality. The process includes pickling, tandem cold rolling, annealing, skin pass, and coating. It is a highly technical, safety-critical environment where mechanical reliability directly impacts quality, flow, and working conditions .
Specific to this role, the day-to-day tasks will include the following but as we are a growing company with very little silos between teams, other tasks might be included as well.
Act as the mechanical subject matter expert within the Cold Mill, supporting safe day-to-day operations
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and lead structured root cause analyses when things don’t work as intended
Support and mentor technicians and colleagues, building confidence and capability across the team
Contribute to preventive and predictive maintenance plans that improve reliability over time
Coordinate mechanical repairs, upgrades, and improvement initiatives with operations and engineering
Follow up on equipment performance and suggest practical improvements to reduce downtime and risk
Ensure maintenance work is documented and carried out in line with safety standards and procedures
What you'll bring
You’re curious and believe that real progress happens when we work together. You don’t need to have all the answers, but you take responsibility for finding them. You care about safety, respect different perspectives, and contribute to a work environment where people feel supported, listened to, and able to grow.
Specific to this role, we would like to see that you can tick off a fair amount of the boxes below.
Experience in mechanical maintenance within heavy industry, such as steel, energy, or process manufacturing
Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment
A strong safety mindset and understanding of maintenance best practices
Experience sharing knowledge, coaching, or supporting colleagues in technical work
Ability to work methodically with root cause analysis and follow through on improvements
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation
A practical, collaborative approach and clear communication style
Not a requirement but meritable:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field

This is Stegra
Stegra is on a mission to change the global steel industry by producing green hydrogen, iron, and steel - with the goal of eliminating CO₂ emissions. Instead of coal, we use green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity, meaning our primary emissions will be water and heat.
By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitized, and sustainable plant in Boden, Northern Sweden - currently under construction. But this is just the beginning. Our expertise in green hydrogen will enable us to decarbonize industries beyond steel, paving the way for a cleaner future.
Our Boden Site
Our Boden site is located just west of Boden City, right in the heart of a growing green industrial hub in Northern Sweden. It’s where we’re building one of the world’s most modern, sustainable steel plants—designed with safety, efficiency, and people in mind. With just a 10-minute commute from town, you'll be close to both cutting-edge technology and the everyday convenience of living near nature, schools, and community life.
