Are you the one?

Research shows that women and underrepresented groups are often hesitant to apply for jobs if they don't meet all the requirements of an ad. At Stegra, we're building a values-driven and sustainable company - and that requires a diverse and inclusive team.

If you share our passion but don't tick every box on the requirements list, we still encourage you to apply. You could be just the right person for this role - or for another role as we grow.

At Stegra, we're not just building a new industrial site. We are proving that sustainable industry is possible. And to succeed, we need people like you.

Here, you'll be part of a team where safety comes first. Where we support each other, learn along the way and create space for everyone to grow and contribute. This is your chance to be part of building something big - while being close to nature and having the opportunity for a balanced, meaningful life.

What you will be doing

Do you want to be part of shaping and ensuring a high quality emergency response and rescue capability in a modern, green industrial environment?

We are now looking for a Rescue Specialist for Stegra's production facility in Boden. In this role, you will report to our Rescue Manager and become part of our Safety function. The team is responsible for creating a safe working environment and for supporting safe and efficient ways of working throughout the business.

As Rescue Specialist, you will have a central position in Stegra's industrial emergency preparedness and rescue organization. Together with the manager, you will ensure that we have the right capabilities to manage risks and potential events at the site. Your mission is to protect people, the environment, the plant and the surrounding community.

The role encompasses strategic, tactical and operational responsibilities, with a particular focus on planning, building and developing our emergency response and rescue function - including preventive safety work. You will be responsible for coordinating and operationally managing both internal and external resources, and you will also work operationally yourself and be part of our emergency response and on-call organization.

Examples of responsibilities:

  • Ensure operational and response readiness of Stegra's internal emergency and rescue organization (staffing, equipment, vehicles and communication)
  • Lead and be responsible for response planning based on the site risk profile and critical scenarios
  • Coordinate the scheduling of standby and on-call staff with the responsible managers
  • Establish, develop and maintain structures for the management and implementation of interventions
  • Planning, conducting and evaluating training, exercises and other capacity-building activities
  • Serving in the emergency response organization for rescue, preparedness and/or crisis management

What you bring

You are curious and convinced that development happens when we work together. You dare to challenge established ways of working and do so with respect. At Stegra, we value people who take initiative, build trust and contribute to a work environment where everyone can succeed.

For this role, we are looking for a person who is structured, stress-resistant and analytical. You are collaborative, build strong relationships and have a holistic and forward-looking perspective. You are flexible, committed and have a genuine interest in preparedness and security.

What we are looking for

There are several possible backgrounds that may be suitable for this role. Examples of relevant previous roles or environments could be:

  • Rescue services in an operational capacity (e.g. force leader, incident commander, rescue leader)
  • Industrial emergency response organization or industrial fire brigade focusing on risk management, response planning or capability development
  • Other blue light activities with operational management, such as police, ambulance or military rescue/CBRN
  • Crisis preparedness, security protection or risk management in the public sector or major industry
  • Training, exercise management or leadership development linked to emergency preparedness, response management or crisis management

These are examples - not requirements. The most important thing is documented operational leadership experience and a good understanding of Swedish emergency services and preparedness structures.

Mandatory requirements:

You fulfill one of the following training tracks:

  • SMO - Protection against accidents or equivalent, combined with rescue management training (practical/operational management)

OR

  • Fire engineer degree with Rescue Management Training (RUB) or equivalent qualifications (e.g. Rescue Manager B, Management Course 2, Supervision A)
  • B driving license

Experience

  • Good experience and understanding of the Swedish emergency services, its organization and relevant legislation
  • Operative leadership experience in emergency services or other blue light organization
  • Experience in leading change and development work

Competencies

  • Very good communication skills in Swedish and English
  • Understanding of crisis preparedness, security protection and risk management
  • Knowledge of relevant Swedish regulations (e.g. LSO, LBE, PBL, Seveso)

Benefits at Stegra

This is Stegra

Stegra aims to transform the global steel industry by producing green hydrogen, iron and steel - without CO₂ emissions. Instead of coal, we use green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity, which means our main emissions will be water and heat.

By 2030, the goal is to produce 5 million tons of green steel per year in our fully integrated, digitalized and sustainable plant in Boden - which is now under construction. And that's just the beginning. Our expertise in green hydrogen will also enable other industries to transition to a cleaner future.

Our Boden plant

Stegra's plant is located just west of Boden city center, in the middle of a growing green industrial cluster in northern Sweden. Here we are building one of the world's most modern and sustainable steel industries - designed with safety, efficiency and people in focus. Just 10 minutes from the city center, you'll be close to both high-tech industry and everyday life with nature, schools and public services around the corner.
