The Kiruna Atmospheric and Geophysical Observatory (KAGO) conducts long-term measurement and recording activities in space and atmospheric physics. These activities have been ongoing since the 1950s and aim to better understand the physics of near-Earth space. Space weather and aurora are examples of exciting areas where these data are used. The group consists of scientists and engineers with different specialties working together to develop, operate and analyze data from ground-based research instruments for long-term records (observatory operations). KAGO currently operates about fifty different instruments at twelve different locations in Sweden. Most are located within Kiruna municipality and therefore the position is located at the Institute for Space Physics (IRF) headquarters in Kiruna.

Fieldwork at measurement stations and international collaborations are included in the work, which may involve both domestic and international travel. Preparation of technical documentation is an important part of the work, as well as being able to verbally communicate the results of the work.
