Description

Kiruna Atmospheric and Geophysical Observatory (KAGO) has been conducting long-term measurement and recording activities in space and atmospheric physics since the 1950s. KAGO is responsible for about 55 instruments at twelve different locations, most of which are within Kiruna municipality. The group consists of scientists and engineers with various specialized skills who work together to develop and maintain the observatory instruments.

Field work at measurement stations and international collaborations are included in the work, which may involve both domestic and international travel. The position is located at the Institute for Space Physics (IRF) headquarters in Kiruna.

Qualifications

You have an engineering degree with a focus on electronics or other equivalent education, which in combination with documented professional experience, is considered by the employer to be relevant to the position.

The following knowledge is required:

  • Maintenance, troubleshooting, service and repair of electronic equipment.
  • Basic analog and digital electronics design.
  • Good knowledge of English and Swedish in both speech and writing.
  • Valid driving license with at least B license (manual transmission).

The following knowledge is meritorious:

  • Knowledge of typical observatory instruments in space physics (e.g. magnetometers, rheometers, ion probes and low-light cameras, e.g. EMCCD).
  • Knowledge of radio frequency electronics, microwave technology, antenna systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems for circuit board design and mechanical design
  • Experience working in Unix (Linux) environments.
  • Programming skills and knowledge of version management.

The work requires independence, accuracy, and the ability to solve problems in many technical areas. Good interpersonal skills within the team as well as with external parties are essential. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the position.

The position is a full-time, permanent position based at IRF's head office in Kiruna. IRF applies individual salary setting. Access according to agreement.
