Would you like to help develop how we use power forecasts to manage the power grid more intelligently?
Electrification is on the rise and is placing new demands on how we plan and use our power grid. To keep pace with these developments, we need to improve our use of data and forecasts to support our day-to-day operations.
We are now looking for a Flex Analyst who wants to help establish our methods for short-term forecasts and contribute to the next step in the development of a smart and efficient power grid.
By the people of Umeå, for the people of Umeå.
We are an energy and communications company owned by the City of Umeå and everyone who lives here. With reliable and accessible solutions, we ensure that a growing Umeå is always heated, lit, and connected.
With us, you’ll be part of a mission critical to society, where together we create the conditions for the region’s development and energy transition.
About the Role
At Umeå Energi Elnät, we currently use a tool for short-term power forecasts. The next step is to develop how these forecasts will be used in our operations and translated into concrete work methods.
As a Flex Analyst, you’ll play a key role in this work. Together with the business, operations, and engineering teams, you’ll develop processes and procedures for how the forecasts should be used, when they should serve as a basis for decisions, and how the business should act based on the information they provide.
The forecasts range from a few hours to a couple of days ahead and can, for example, be used to support day-to-day operations and various forms of load management.
This area is under development, and in the long term, additional applications within flexibility and load management may also become relevant.
In this role, your responsibilities will include
assessing the organization’s needs and identifying how short-term forecasts can be used in practice
develop and document processes and procedures for the use of forecasts
define when and how forecasts should be used, as well as the thresholds and working methods required
translate the business’s needs into concrete areas of application and action plans
drive the implementation of new working methods and contribute to a more data-driven and proactive use of the power grid
coordinate relevant parts of the organization and build consensus among business, operations, and technology
help clarify how the working methods and the field can be developed going forward.
We’re looking for someone who
You enjoy tackling areas where everything isn’t yet fully defined and where, together with others, you need to create structure, clarity, and effective work methods.
You are analytical and structured, with the ability to see connections between business operations, data, and systems. You enjoy collaborating with people with diverse skill sets while also being comfortable driving your work forward independently.
We prefer that you have a relevant college degree, such as a Master of Science in Engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or a degree in Systems Science. Other education or experience that we deem equivalent may also be relevant.
We believe you have experience developing work methods, processes, or operations and are accustomed to translating needs into concrete solutions. You have a strong understanding of systems and find it easy to familiarize yourself with new digital tools.
Experience in the energy sector, power grids, or other technical infrastructure is a plus. Experience with power and capacity issues, forecasting, flexibility, or working with analysis and forecasting tools is also a plus.
With us, you’ll be part of the team from the very beginning
This is a field that is becoming increasingly important as electrification grows and new demands are placed on how the power grid’s capacity is utilized.
With us, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape our approach from the very beginning, work closely with various parts of the organization, and develop your expertise in an area that is becoming increasingly important for the power grid of the future.
This is a special six-month fixed-term position, with the possibility of extension based on the business’s ongoing needs.
