The Education Administration is responsible for preschool, preschool class, elementary school, special education elementary school, and after-school programs in the municipality. The operations are divided into three management teams: F-6 Southwest, F-6 Northeast, and grades 7–9. Each management team is led by a regional manager.

Within the municipality of Umeå, special education elementary schools are located at several schools. Östra Ersbodaskolan, Ersängskolan, and Carlshöjdskolan offer special education for grades 1–6. At Carlslund, there is a special education elementary program for grades 7–9.

We are now seeking an assistant principal for the special education elementary program at Ersboda and Carlshöjdskolan.

Your Responsibilities

This position covers the adapted elementary school for grades 1–6, located at Ersboda and Carlshöjd School. You will divide your working hours roughly 50/50 between the two schools.

As an assistant principal, you will work on behalf of the principal. The responsibilities delegated to you may change over time, but may include, for example:

• quality assurance of instruction
• student health services
• staff management
• staff planning, recruitment, and rehabilitation
• performance reviews and salary discussions
• systematic workplace safety and health efforts
• leading equal treatment initiatives
• leading efforts in sustainable development

You will be part of the leadership team for the F-6 Northeast Elementary School. The principal of the Special Education Elementary School at Ersäng and Östra Ersbodaskolan will be your immediate supervisor. You will also work on behalf of the principal of the Special Education Elementary School at Carlshöjdskolan.

You will be part of a network of principals in special education elementary schools. The network serves as an important forum for sharing experiences, collegial learning, and the joint development of the program. The role also includes support from a development manager with special responsibility for special education.

Educational Requirements:

• A college degree in education, preferably with a focus on elementary school

Experience Requirements:

• Experience in elementary school, preferably in a special education setting
• Experience as an assistant principal or principal. If you have not worked as a school leader, you must have led or coordinated colleagues in educational development work, or alternatively, you must have completed a trainee program or recruitment training for prospective school leaders.
• Experience with or understanding of students with intellectual disabilities and their learning needs
