Are you the one?

Would you like a job where what you do makes a difference in other people’s lives?

Working in home care means working closely with people. You’ll become a part of their daily lives and help foster a sense of security, independence, and quality of life. At the same time, you’ll have a varied job where no two days are alike.

Your municipal home care service is available throughout the Umeå municipality. Every day, we meet people with different needs, wishes, and life situations. Our mission is to provide safe, respectful, and compassionate care that enables older adults to live independently in their own homes.

We’re now looking for more team members to join our care teams. Perhaps you have experience in healthcare and social services. Or perhaps you come from a different profession and want to try a job where you can make a difference in other people’s lives. What matters most to us is that you enjoy helping others, take responsibility, and want to contribute to care that is characterized by quality, thoughtfulness, and respect.

With us, you’ll get:

  • a stable, long-term employer
  • employee benefits—read more here: Our Benefits - Umeå Municipality
  • a thorough orientation and support in your professional role
  • an approachable manager and dedicated colleagues
  • opportunities for professional growth in health and social care
  • a job where you contribute to the well-being and quality of life of others

We know that quality care is provided by employees who feel secure, included, and appreciated. Although we are a large organization, we work in geographically divided teams where you get to know both your colleagues and the people you support. This creates a strong foundation for continuity, collaboration, and hands-on leadership.

Your Responsibilities

As a care worker in your municipal home care service, you’ll work closely with people in their own homes. Together with your colleagues, you’ll be responsible for providing care based on each person’s needs, wishes, and care plan.

The goal of our work is to enable older adults to continue living at home for as long as they wish. You’ll focus on the individual’s participation and self-determination and help ensure that services are provided to a high standard.

Job duties vary based on the individual’s needs and may include, among other things:

  • personal care
  • assistance with meals
  • housekeeping services, such as cleaning
  • social interaction and support in daily life
  • documentation
  • medication administration as delegated by a nurse

You’ll start your shift together with your colleagues, where you’ll review and coordinate the day’s work.

Heavy lifting may be required, and mobility aids are used in the work. Work in homes where there are pets or where people smoke may also occur.

About You

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people and treats others with respect, empathy, and consideration.

Experience in home health care or other healthcare and social services is a plus. Training as a nursing assistant or other training in healthcare and social services is also a plus, but not a requirement.

We also welcome applicants who lack prior experience but possess the right personal qualities, a genuine interest in people, and a willingness to learn the job.

You are self-assured, enjoy collaborating with others, and take responsibility for your tasks. You contribute to a positive work environment and want to help provide high-quality care.

To communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, process and document information, and receive medication delegation, you must have a good command of Swedish, both spoken and written. You must also have a Class B driver’s license and/or be able to ride a bicycle.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
