We are now seeking a career counselor for a newly established career center at Umeå University—a collaboration between Umeå Municipality’s Business Development Office and the university’s Student Center.

About the Position

As a career counselor, you’ll play a key role in building a career center dedicated to helping students establish themselves in the job market and strengthening the connections between students, the university, and the business community.

You will work closely with students, colleagues at the Student Center, and stakeholders in the business community. The role combines individual guidance, the development of activities, and relationship-building work.

This is a full-time project-based position, from September 1, 2026, through May 25, 2028.

Examples of job responsibilities

  • Provide individual career guidance and coaching to students and recent graduates
  • Support students in:
    • career choices and goals
    • resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn
    • job search strategies and interview training
  • Plan and conduct workshops, seminars, and events related to careers and professional life
  • Work with employer contacts, networks, and collaboration activities between students and the business community
  • Contribute to developing the Career Center’s offerings, processes, and working methods
  • Collaborate with academic programs and internal functions to integrate the career perspective into students’ academic experience
  • Contribute to communication and visibility for the Career Center

The position involves both operational work interacting with students and a development role within a growing organization.

About Umeå University and the Career Center

Umeå University is one of Sweden’s largest universities, with over 42,000 students and a strong profile in education, research, and collaboration. The university is actively working to strengthen students’ connections to the workforce during their studies.

The new Career Center is being established as a joint initiative between the university and the City of Umeå. The goal is to:

  • create a clear point of contact between students and employers
  • strengthen students’ transition into the workforce after graduation
  • contribute to the region’s long-term supply of skilled labor

The Career Center will serve as a hub for career guidance, professional networking, and activities—in line with how modern university career centers operate today.

You will be employed by Umeå Municipality’s Business Development Department but will be based at the Student Center on campus.
