The meal service in the Municipality of Umeå has an important mission: to provide the municipality’s schools and senior care facilities with delicious and nutritious meals. We want to inspire good health and joy around food, and together with our colleagues in schools and care facilities, we strive to create positive dining experiences for our guests.

We are now looking for a dedicated traveling chef who wants to help create delicious, nutritious, and sustainable meals!

The Role of a Chef

As a chef with us, you’ll be responsible for leading and planning kitchen operations, and you’ll play a central role in creating high-quality meals. Together with your colleagues in the kitchen, you’ll create a pleasant dining environment for our guests. You’ll work closely with both colleagues and diners and help maintain the high quality of our service.

Our kitchen is a place where every dish we serve is an opportunity to make a difference—whether it’s food for preschoolers, schoolchildren, or our senior citizens. We constantly strive to improve both flavors and work processes to make the meals as good as possible.

As a rotating chef, you’ll be assigned to a kitchen that needs a chef to cover the day or the next few days. You’ll experience a highly varied work environment and have the opportunity to work in all of Meal Service’s kitchens, including those in schools, preschools, and healthcare and senior care facilities. This gives you a broad understanding of what Måltidsservice is all about and helps you develop a wide range of skills and experience. Since no two days are alike, it’s important that you’re highly flexible and open to finding solutions wherever you’re assigned. As a floating staff member, you’ll cover both planned and unplanned absences.

Your responsibilities:

• Preparing breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner in healthcare and long-term care kitchens
• Handling special dietary needs
• Ordering and purchasing ingredients and receiving deliveries
• Washing dishes, cleaning, and maintaining both the kitchen and equipment
• Other common tasks in a commercial kitchen

Heavy lifting is required.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in food and a passion for creating tasty, healthy meals. We believe you have experience working in a kitchen and that you’re someone who enjoys contributing ideas to develop and improve our operations.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Culinary training or other training in institutional kitchens deemed equivalent
• Several years of experience working in institutional kitchens or restaurants
• Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both verbally and in writing, as well as basic knowledge of English
• A Class B driver’s license and access to your own car

We consider the following to be a plus:

• Experience working in a commercial kitchen preparing meals for children and the elderly
• Experience working in the public sector
