The Upper Secondary and Adult Education Committee is responsible for the municipality’s obligations under education legislation regarding upper secondary school, adapted upper secondary school, municipal adult education, and special education for adults. The Board is also responsible for work-oriented rehabilitation and the municipality’s refugee reception services. We work together to ensure that the municipality’s residents can learn, grow, and live independent lives. We have Sweden’s most important job—our mission is to instill hope for the future.

As a study and career counselor (SYV) in upper secondary school, you will work closely with principals, student health services, students, and other partners in this role. You will also collaborate with your SYV colleagues at Umeå Municipality’s four high schools. All SYVs at the municipality’s high schools report to a single unit manager.

We are now seeking a study and career counselor to be based at Dragonskolan.

Employment Information

This is a full-time temporary position, to begin as soon as possible by mutual agreement and continuing through December 18, 2026.

Your Responsibilities

The role of a study and career counselor in upper secondary school involves conducting individual and group counseling sessions with students, assisting with academic planning, and providing information to—and collaborating with—teachers, principals, the student health team, students, and, where applicable, guardians.

You will actively work to build strong relationships with principals, colleagues, students, and partners, and contribute to collaboration within the student health team.

You are a skilled relationship builder who actively works to create and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, students, and partners. You are solution-oriented and have the ability to adapt your methods to meet the needs of different individuals.

You are interested in supporting individuals as they navigate their school years and alsothe transition to a professional career. We place great emphasis on personal suitability!

We are looking for someone who has:

• a degree from the study and career counseling program,
• very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written,
• a valid police background check.

Experience working as an educational and career counselor is a plus.
