The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.

Our facility is beautifully situated in the newly developed Tomtebogård neighborhood near Lake Nydala. This area offers year-round activities such as an outdoor gym, a summer café, a swimming area, ski trails, mini-golf, fishing, and much more.

We are now looking for several committed and dedicated support assistants to join our team, which works together to provide our clients with a safe home environment and a meaningful life. With us, you’ll sometimes be surrounded by many colleagues. Your Responsibilities

In your role, you will guide and support individuals with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities in their daily lives. You’ll work to help each person participate in a functional daily life and engage in meaningful leisure activities and/or employment. The job includes hygiene and personal care tasks, heavy lifting and transfers, as well as standard household chores such as cleaning, laundry, and cooking. Your work will require a high degree of tact and sensitivity. You will support clients in various activities such as exercise, bathing, going to the movies, and playing games.

In your role, you will plan, carry out, document, follow up on, and evaluate these activities on a daily basis, both independently and in collaboration with others. This places high demands on your administrative skills and your ability to plan and organize your work. You also need to be comfortable working with computers, as this is a natural and daily part of the job.

Since the facility is still under development, you will also be expected to help create and establish structure and routines within the facility and then actively work with these to ensure the residents’ safety and prevent the risk of disruptive behavior. At the same time, you are expected to be flexible, think on your feet, and handle unexpected situations. The job demands a high level of professionalism and commitment.

Working hours are scheduled for day and evening shifts, with weekend shifts every other weekend. Coordination with other departments is required.

- The job involves physically demanding tasks; assistive devices for moving residents must be used.

- Cats are occasionally present in the workplace, so you should not be allergic.

About You

You have strong collaboration skills, and it is of the utmost importance that you treat service users and others involved with our service users professionally. You are a good teacher, dedicated, and willing to share our values, work toward set goals, and strive for continuous improvement. As a person, you should be driven by a desire to embrace development and change and to act accordingly. Your approach to work is characterized by flexibility, consistency, and reliability. You should have great patience and be able to work toward long-term goals without losing focus.

To communicate with clients and their support networks, write and review care documentation, and receive medication delegation, you must have a strong command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written. You need to be able to communicate clearly and directly with clients, while at the same time standing firm on decisions that have been made. At times, the pace can be fast, so it’s important that you can stay calm, manage stress effectively, and think quickly when needed.

In this role, it’s of the utmost importance that you are a solution-oriented person who doesn’t get easily stuck in difficult situations.  You should also have a positive outlook on challenges and enjoy working through them. You should also be resourceful and enjoy coming up with activities outside the facility and carrying them out together with the residents.  Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements

• Health and Social Care Program, Child and Leisure Program, Social Work Program

  or other education deemed equivalent by the employer

• Experience working in healthcare

Preferred Qualifications

• Education and/or experience in psychiatry/social psychiatry
• Experience working with people in complex and emotionally charged situations
• Experience or knowledge of methods such as ESL (An Independent Life), MI (Motivational Interviewing), or Resima
• Experience in handling threatening and violent situations at work
• Experience with self-harm
• Experience with epilepsy
