The Labor Market and Integration Department is responsible for the integration of new arrivals, labor market issues, and the municipality’s responsibility for employment activities in the City of Umeå. We play a key role in promoting social sustainability and inclusion. By supporting individuals on their path to employment or education, we contribute both to people’s ability to support themselves and to employers’ access to skilled workers and the development of inclusive workplaces. The department supports participants who need assistance to take the next step toward employment or education. This work is carried out in close collaboration with organizations such as social services, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Public Employment Service, Region Västerbotten, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, and employers. We are also an active partner in the Arbetsmarknadstorget collaboration platform, where, together with other agencies, we offer coordinated support to individuals who require a combination of services.

Our operations are significantly influenced by external factors such as societal developments, political decisions, changes in legislation, and labor market conditions. This requires continuous development and the ability to adapt our working methods and initiatives to meet new needs.

Your Responsibilities

As a labor market consultant responsible for group activities, you will provide participants with the opportunities to begin or resume their studies or to take steps toward employment. The role involves overseeing scheduled group activities held in person for young people and adults aged 16–65 in one or more of the following current areas of focus: Labor Market Knowledge and Job Search, Academic and Career Guidance, Health, Digital Skills, Language, and Social Studies.

You will be part of a team where everyone is tasked with planning, conducting, following up on, and developing group activities. You’ll work closely with participants’ individual support staff through follow-up and documentation in accordance with procedures in the applicable operational system.

About You

We’re looking for a team player who can work independently and is eager to help people grow and stay motivated within a group setting.  You can create a sense of psychological safety within groups, focus on participants’ strengths and positive factors, and adapt group activities without compromising their content or purpose. You are highly driven and work with a clear focus on the program’s goal—to help individuals begin work or studies. You need to be creative, flexible, and solution-oriented. Working in the Labor Market and Integration Department requires an interest in and willingness to continuously develop yourself and contribute to the organization’s growth. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. 

Requirements

• A degree in a relevant field of higher education, such as social sciences, behavioral sciences, education, or similar
• Solid knowledge and experience of the labor market, including an understanding of the conditions in the workforce and the various educational pathways
• Experience working with people with diverse support needs, such as those with neurodevelopmental disorders (NPD), physical or mental health conditions, or challenges related to non-conforming behaviors
• Experience leading groups, e.g., by facilitating workshops or similar activities
• Fluency in spoken and written Swedish, as well as a good command of English
• Class B driver’s license

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience in special education
