Family Therapy is an outpatient unit for children and adolescents ages 0–18 and their families; some services are also provided for those up to age 21. The unit works to implement various types of approved assistance decisions in the form of family therapy, parental support, and other services aimed at children, adolescents, their families, and young adults. The Family Treatment Unit consists of approximately 40 staff members who work with different methods and age groups. The unit is led by two unit directors and two team leaders. The operations are divided into two workgroups based on age and method.

The family treatment program utilizes methods such as: IHF (Intensive Home-Based Family Treatment), FFT (Functional Family Therapy), “Crime as a Lifestyle,” SIG (Social Intervention Group), KIBB (Cognitive Integrated Treatment for Risk of Child Abuse), Trappan, PYC (Parenting Young Children), and “Safer Children.” The therapists at the unit also work with youth services, youth care, substance abuse treatment, and support for parents with children or adolescents in foster care.

We are now seeking a family therapist to join the team that works with children ages 0–12 and their families. However, you are expected to be able to work across team boundaries when necessary.

Your Responsibilities

As a family therapist, you will work with outpatient interventions focused on strengthening children’s sense of security and families’ ability to provide care. You will provide treatment interventions, partly based on manual-based methods, in close collaboration with children, parents, social workers, and other partners. The work is carried out both individually and, primarily, together with colleagues in a team.

The team working with children ages 0–12 uses, among other things, the Parenting Young Children (PYC) method—a parenting support program for parents with cognitive difficulties—and the “Safer Children” method, which aims to reduce negative interactions, prevent risky situations, and strengthen the relationship between children and parents. Work with families takes place both in the home environment and at the program’s facilities.

You are a confident, courageous, and communicative person who finds it easy to collaborate at all levels. As a family counselor, you need to be organized, flexible, responsive, and committed, and you should enjoy working with others as part of a team to achieve the best outcomes for our children, youth, and their families. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements

• A degree in social work or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
• Experience working with children, youth, and families within social services’ service delivery/outpatient care and/or in an official capacity.
• Class B driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Training in BBIC, Tryggare barn, and/or PYC.
• Experience in therapeutic work, or alternative forms of work with individuals in processes or change initiatives.

Pets may be present in the homes of the families you work with.
