We have a shared strategy for education in our municipality: to create a cohesive educational pathway that contributes to greater equity, improved academic outcomes, and attractive educational opportunities. Here, all children, youth, and adults should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and develop their knowledge and skills. We know that this depends on dedicated, knowledgeable, and professional staff who provide high-quality instruction. We make a difference every day and are proud of our mission. We have Sweden’s most important job—our mission is to instill hope for the future in young people.

Berghemsskolan is a pre-K through 6th-grade school with approximately 250 students. With its proximity to Gammlia, the Stadsliden outdoor recreation area, and Bräntberget, there are plenty of opportunities for exciting outdoor activities. Qualified teachers with extensive experience work here, and the after-school staff are also actively involved in school activities. Our school is one of Umeå Municipality’s training schools, which means that during the school year we host student teachers as part of their practical training program (VFU). Take a virtual tour of the school here!

Would you like to help create a safe, meaningful, and enriching after-school program where the students’ learning is the focus? We are now looking for a dedicated, organized, and confident after-school program teacher who wants to take on the role of department head for students in grades 1–3.

About the Role

As a department head with us, you’ll play a key role leading the educational work in your department. You will plan, implement, and evaluate instruction based on Lgr22, while creating a learning environment that encourages play, creativity, physical activity, and exploration. • Systematically plan, implement, document, and evaluate instruction based on the after-school program section of Lgr22
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that promotes students’ social development and a sense of community
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers during the school day to support students throughout their entire school day
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians
  • Plan and lead structured recess activities and participate in the school’s safety and student wellness initiatives as needed

About You

You are a confident and attentive educator who finds it easy to build relationships and foster a calm working environment. As a person, you are flexible, a good team player, and driven by seeing both individual students and the group grow. You are eager to take the initiative, lead your team with clarity, and inspire others with your energy and pedagogical approach. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements

  • Certified after-school program teacher
  • Holds or has applied for a teaching license
  • Documented experience working in an after-school program
  • Practical experience planning and evaluating instruction based on Lgr22
  • Strong proficiency in spoken and written Swedish

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extended qualifications in practical-aesthetic subjects such as art, music, or physical education and health
  • Experience in a leadership role, such as department head or coordinator
  • Training or experience in special education, NPD-based approaches, or low-affect approaches
