We are now looking for a network technician for Umeå Municipality’s DoIT—join us in building a smarter and safer city!

Are you interested in working with networking issues in a large and complex operational environment within a mission-critical organization? Do you want to help ensure a stable and secure IT infrastructure for thousands of users—every day? We are now looking for another IT infrastructure specialist with a focus on networking to join our Networking & Telephony team.

Umeå Municipality’s internal network spans a large geographic area and encompasses all municipal operations as well as several municipal companies. We are located at approximately 500 sites, are responsible for around 1,000 switches and 3,000 wireless access points that together handle tens of thousands of connections—and the network continues to grow. Umeå Municipality IT also serves as the host municipality for a regional IT collaboration, where we are responsible, among other things, for telephony and data center operations for several municipalities in Västerbotten.

Your Responsibilities

You will work with the operation, development, and troubleshooting of our wired and wireless networks. The role involves both operational work and participation in projects and system implementations where networking expertise is crucial. You’ll be part of an experienced team where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and quality are the focus.

You’ll also work on integrating new solutions into larger operational environments, as well as contribute to the development and improvement of work methods, procedures, and documentation. The role involves close collaboration with other IT specialists and business units, as well as providing support and advice to colleagues and other departments.

The role also includes on-call duty according to a schedule, which is a crucial part of ensuring high availability in our mission-critical IT services. Heavy lifting may be required as part of the job.

About You

We’re looking for someone who takes responsibility, sees the big picture in complex operational environments, and is confident in problem-solving, identifying opportunities, and managing risks. Supporting and guiding colleagues comes naturally to you, and you adapt your communication to the audience and situation. We place great emphasis on personal fit.

Requirements

  • University or college degree in computer science, IT, or network engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working as a network technician or infrastructure specialist
  • Experience operating and managing large network environments
  • Experience with wired and wireless networks
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues in production environments
  • Class B driver’s license
  • Fluency in spoken and written Swedish, as well as good knowledge of English

Preferred

  • Network certifications, e.g., Cisco (CCNA/CCNP or equivalent)
  • Specialization in network design, security, or wireless networks
  • Experience with Cisco environments and support systems, e.g., Cisco ISE, Catalyst Center, Unified Communications Manager
  • Experience with large, complex, and geographically distributed networks
  • Experience with fixed-line and mobile telephony
  • Experience collaborating across multiple organizations/clients
  • Experience with mission-critical operations or the public sector
