Landscape Architect, Streets and Parks Type of Employment Full-time
Job position Landscape architect
Work model On location
Application due date 25 May 2025
Are you the one? Umeå municipality is growing and our ambitions are high.
Now we are looking for you who want to help shape tomorrow's Umeå!
Streets and Parks plans, builds, develops and manages the municipality's public outdoor environments. This includes streets and squares, parks and green areas. We work to ensure that the city is well-maintained, beautiful, safe and accessible - all for a well-functioning and pleasant everyday life for all the municipality's residents. Our goal is to contribute to a safe, secure and long-term sustainable society with good living environments. We strive for an organization characterized by diversity because we know that differences enrich.
We are now looking for a committed landscape architect who can contribute to the development of Umeå's green structure, public spaces and properties.
Main work tasks
As a landscape architect with us, you will work with the planning, development and design of the city's public spaces, parks and natural areas. You are an important part of the strategic work in the municipality and also participate in major investment and development projects, where you ensure that the administration's perspective is taken into account.
Your work will include, among other things:
participating in the preparation of plans and studies
acting as a client in the design of new and redevelopment projects
contributing your expertise to various assignments linked to physical planning, including new detailed plans
An important part of your position involves working with the municipality's property department on projects involving reinvestment and new construction of schools, preschools and care homes, for example. You will also have a special focus on how these interact with adjacent park and natural environments.
You will be part of the Parks Department team. The department currently consists of five landscape architects, five landscape engineers, two climate adaptation strategists and the head of the municipality's own park operations. Together you are responsible for planning, developing and coordinating the operation and development of the municipality's parks and residential nature.
About you
We are looking for you who have a master's degree in landscape architecture. We believe that you have a few years of experience in the profession, preferably in project planning with an understanding of practical and technical aspects.
It is an advantage if you have experience in project management, cost estimation and aspects of operation and maintenance. If you have experience of working with lighting and lighting design and/or experience of data-driven planning/GIS, this is positive.
We would also like to see that you have experience of working with environments where aesthetic, functional and sustainability values are combined.
It is an advantage if you have worked with functional programs for outdoor environments or otherwise structured work with experience values and quality criteria in outdoor environment projects.
As this is partly a new role, the forms of collaboration with the real estate office are not established in detail - which gives you the opportunity to influence. We are therefore looking for you who are enterprising, curious about collaboration and have a drive to improve and develop. You are also self-driven, structured and used to taking responsibility for planning and driving your work forward. As the work involves a lot of collaboration, it is important to have good cooperation and communication skills.
Of course, you are committed to community development! You have an interest in how urban environments can be designed for both the benefit of citizens and for long-term sustainability. You also have an interest in creating outdoor environments that are rich in experience, promote meetings and interaction between people, and are sustainable and easy to maintain over time. You thrive in a changing environment and find it stimulating to work in a developing city.
