Are you the one? Do you want to help shape Umeå's outdoor environments? Then you might be our new landscape engineer!
The Parks Department manages natural land of about 1000 hectares and about 30,000 trees in avenues, squares and parks.
The green structure in Umeå has a key role in meeting the challenges of society, and as a planner you will help us develop the city's public spaces and green qualities - both from an ecological, social, cultural and economic perspective.
Your tasks
As a landscape engineer, you will be responsible for the management of parks, green areas, natural land and technical facilities in a part of the city. Working closely with both the operating contractor and colleagues, you will play a key role in ensuring that our environments are managed efficiently, sustainably and with the right quality. You act as a contact person for contractors and follow up on operational activities, fault reports and minor reinvestments.
You also participate in working groups where we set the framework for what we build today - with a focus on long-term sustainability and manageability. Understanding the link between what is being built and future operations is therefore key.
About you
We are looking for you who have experience in park management, preferably with a few years of background in the maintenance of outdoor environments. We believe that you have training as a landscape engineer or equivalent and would like you to have a strong practical foundation - where the experience is in the body and provides confidence in problem solving, priorities and assessments on site. You are used to taking responsibility for your tasks and have the ability to plan and prioritize. You enjoy solving concrete problems in everyday life, but you are also structured, communicative and clear in collaborations.
A B driving license is a requirement.
Different routes into the role
We would like to see that you have a particular area of knowledge or interest to contribute to development - this can look different. Examples of possible entry points:
You have experience in developing and evaluating management practices, and want to work to ensure that what we build is also reasonable to manage. You can help improve existing ways of working, freeing up resources to develop and test new solutions.
You come from a maintenance or engineering background, with knowledge of materials, soil science or technical installations such as fountains, lighting or automatic irrigation.
You have an ecological profile, and have worked on forest or meadow management, ponds, stormwater facilities or biodiversity in large green structures.
Whatever your background, the most important thing is that you have an understanding of the management context - and a willingness to contribute.
Digital way of working
We work actively with digital systems for planning, monitoring and documentation. We use, among other things, digital maps, GIS, case management systems, error reports, and technical monitoring of, for example, robotic lawnmowers and irrigation.
If you have an interest in technology, GIS or method development, this is an extra plus - but above all, you see technology as a support for improving working methods, not as an obstacle.
As a person, we believe you are:
Solution-focused, unpretentious and pragmatic - and enjoy solving things on the spot and in collaboration with others.
Independent, but also good at collaborating and creating clear, constructive dialog with different roles and interests.
Communicative - you can explain requirements and solutions both verbally and in writing.
Interested in contributing to a long-term sustainable Umeå, both ecologically, socially and economically.
What do we offer?
You will be part of a committed team with a breadth of expertise of landscape engineers, landscape architects and climate adaptation strategists - where experience, curiosity and collaboration are at the center. We offer an independent and meaningful assignment in an organization where the quality of our outdoor environments is a shared responsibility.
Welcome with your application! We would like you to attach your CV and diploma.
