Our administration employs over 1,000 staff members across five different divisions: Real Estate, Streets and Parks, Digital Transformation & IT, Food Services, and Cleaning and Operational Services. We plan, build, and maintain properties, roads, and outdoor spaces. We provide transportation services and handle internal tasks to ensure the municipality’s operations run smoothly. Meal services in the Municipality of Umeå include the preparation and serving of lunches in preschools, elementary schools, high schools, restaurants, and at several senior care facilities. Our mission is to provide excellent service and nutritious, healthy meals to our diners and, together with school and care staff, to foster an understanding of the importance of food for good health and well-being. We are now looking for someone interested in a split position between Linjalen Preschool and the Väst-Teg production kitchen, which offers a varied and rewarding workday!

Linjalen Preschool is a small preschool in Teg. Here, breakfast, lunch, and snacks are served to the preschool children. You’ll be an important part of the operation and help create positive dining experiences in a safe and pleasant environment. The work is characterized by close collaboration with educators and personal interaction with both children and colleagues.

The Väst-Teg production kitchen is located at the Väst-Teg nursing and care home. The kitchen has modern, spacious facilities and is responsible for preparing lunch and dinner for the facility’s approximately 120 diners every day of the week. Väst-Teg is also the only kitchen in Umeå that prepares and distributes meals to clients in community-based housing, making the operation both unique and vital to the community.

Your Responsibilities

As a food service assistant with us, you’ll handle all relevant tasks. You’ll provide excellent service and help ensure our diners are satisfied. In accordance with the municipality’s goals, operational plan, meal concept, and policy documents, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparation and cleanup in preschool kitchens and larger production kitchens
• Packing, packaging, and presenting meal boxes in an appealing and high-quality manner
• Some food preparation, such as cooking pasta, rice, potatoes, and side dishes for the day’s meals
• Preparing a high-quality, seasonal salad bar
• Managing meal orders and handling purchases, invoices, and goods receipt
• Maintaining the kitchen and equipment in good condition through washing, cleaning, and routine maintenance
• Interacting daily with colleagues, children, service users, and other guests, and contributing to a professional and service-oriented approach
• Work in a cost-conscious manner to help maintain a balanced budget
• When needed, provide support and cover shifts in other kitchens within Meal Services

Requirements

• Culinary training, high school education in food service, or equivalent work experience
• Good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written
• Valid criminal background check, in accordance with the Act on Suitability Checks
