Umeå municipality and all other municipalities in Sweden have an obligation to protect and promote the national minority languages and the culture of indigenous peoples and national minorities and their opportunities to maintain and develop their culture.

Umeå municipality is part of the administrative areas for Finnish, Meänkieli and Sami, which gives these languages enhanced protection. The goal of the Swedish minority policy is to provide protection for the national minorities and strengthen their opportunities to influence and support the historical minority languages so that they are kept alive

About the assignment

As a minority coordinator, you work to make visible, develop and coordinate the municipality's work with Finnish, Meänkieli and its cultures. You plan and implement activities, strengthen language and cultural identity and work closely with associations and civil society. Part of the assignment also involves contributing with support in the municipality's work on the national minority languages Yiddish and Romani Chib.

Your tasks

• Drive the development of the elderly care work on minority issues linked to Finnish and Meänkieli minority issues.
• Strengthen the opportunities for a rich and independent senior life.
• Conduct training that strengthens the languages, culture and rights.
• Build dialogue with associations linked to these minority groups.
• Provide support and services, including simple translation assistance and help with interpretation.
• Collaborate with various activities in health, care and culture.
• Participate in various networks at regional and national level.
• Communicate and make the work visible in various channels.

About you

We are looking for you who are a skilled communicator who expresses yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish. You are structured and service-oriented, with the ability to take initiative and drive development forward. You thrive on working both independently and in networks, and find it easy to build good relationships. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements

• A university degree, preferably with a social science/humanities focus or equivalent.
• Experience of working with minority issues.
• Good computer skills and interest in digital platforms.
• B-driving license.

Advantageous

• Insight into the activities of social services.
• Good knowledge of Finnish and Meänkieli.
