We work together to help children and young people thrive and have a secure upbringing. We teach children to read, write, and do math. We help develop children’s imagination and belief in their own abilities. We support children and young people in leading independent lives. We have Sweden’s most important job—our mission is to give young people hope for the future.
The Center of Excellence for Multilingualism works to ensure that students receive instruction in their native language as well as academic support in their strongest language. Today, 38 languages are represented within the organization. We work with both municipal and private school districts.
We are looking for a native German language teacher!
Employment Type
Temporary position, part-time 10%. Start date August 17, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
Job Responsibilities
The role of native language teacher is a traveling position determined by student enrollment. This requires the teacher to travel to various schools within the municipality—both in the central area and to schools in the outskirts—to meet with students. The role of native language teacher may include the following tasks: native language instruction, academic counseling, distance learning, remote tutoring, and support for the Hej Umeå Reception Unit as a language support specialist.
Native Language Instruction
Instruction is provided to students in groups or individually within the municipality’s school units from preschool through 9th grade. Instruction takes place outside the student’s regular schedule in the afternoons. Students receive in-person instruction at their home school from preschool through 3rd grade. Starting in 4th grade, this may mean that the student receives instruction at a different school. We provide a bus pass for travel between schools. Distance learning may be included in the position at the municipality’s outlying schools for students starting in second grade. Your work is highly independent, and as a native language teacher, your duties include planning, implementing, grading, and evaluating the instruction you provide based on the Swedish curriculum.
Study Guidance
Study guidance means you may work with students in grades 1–9 as well as in the Language Introduction program at the high school. Study guidance can take place before, during, or after the student’s class time.
You will work closely with the student’s mentor and subject teachers who plan and conduct the lessons, while you provide support in the student’s native language to help them acquire knowledge in various school subjects. You are flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
You will also provide support in welcoming newly arrived children and students, which includes, among other things, informational meetings, orientation support, direct support, and assessing the knowledge of newly arrived students.
Qualifications
You are a native German speaker with documented language proficiency in German, Swedish B/Swedish 2, and demonstrated strong digital skills. You have a teaching degree, either Swedish or foreign, or other educational experience. If you have documented proficiency in multiple languages or know different dialects of German, this is a plus. Public transportation to the workplace is limited, so having a driver’s license and access to your own car is helpful.
You are creative, independent, flexible, and able to handle stress. You are curious and eager to learn and grow. As a person, you easily connect with staff, children, and parents. You should have strong teamwork skills, be a good listener, and be able to communicate and handle various situations in a constructive manner. You take responsibility for your tasks and are approachable in your interactions. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We would appreciate it if you could include a cover letter and resume written in Swedish. If you have a teaching certificate, please attach it.
In accordance with the Act on Suitability Checks, an extract from the police criminal record must be presented upon employment.
We look forward to receiving your application!
