Umeå, Sverige
Type of Employment Part-time
Job position Native Language Teachers in Elementary School
Work model On location
Application due date 30 September 2026
Are you the one?

The Center of Excellence for Multilingualism works to ensure that students have the opportunity to receive instruction in their native language as well as academic support in the language they know best. Currently, 38 different languages are represented within the program. We collaborate with both municipal and independent school operators, from preschool through high school.

Students who have at least one parent or guardian whose native language is not Swedish are given the opportunity to study their language as a separate school subject. Through native language instruction, students can strengthen their multilingualism, develop their identity, and build pride in their language and background.

We are now looking for a Saurashtra native language teacher!

Employment Information

This is a special fixed-term position, part-time (5%). Start date to be agreed upon, through December 31, 2026.

Your Responsibilities

Working as a native language teacher is a dynamic and varied role where the student population guides the planning. You will visit various schools throughout the municipality—both in the city center and in outlying areas—to meet students in their school environment.

This role may include the following responsibilities:

  • Native language instruction
  • Academic guidance in the native language
  • Remote instruction and remote guidance
  • Language support initiatives in collaboration with the Reception Unit Hej Umeå

Academic tutoring involves supporting students in grades 1–9 as well as those in the Language Introduction program in high school. Support can take place before, during, or after class. You will work closely with mentors and subject teachers, who are responsible for planning, while you provide support in the student’s native language to strengthen their learning.

This may include support for Hej Umeå—the reception unit responsible for welcoming newly arrived students—for example, through informational meetings and assessments.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is creative, self-motivated, and flexible—and who thrives in a dynamic work environment. You are curious and have a strong desire to both contribute to development and grow personally. As a person, you easily build good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. Furthermore, you have strong collaborative skills, are responsive, and can communicate and handle various situations in a constructive and solution-oriented manner. You take responsibility for your tasks and treat others in a courteous and respectful manner. We place great emphasis on your personal suitability.

Requirements

  • Saurashtra as a native language and documented proficiency in it
  • Passing grade in Swedish B/Swedish 2
  • Good digital skills
  • Teacher training, Swedish or foreign—or alternative teaching experience
  • Valid criminal background check, in accordance with the Act on Suitability Checks

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of additional languages

Please attach your resume and, if applicable, a cover letter written in Swedish, as well as any teaching certification.

Together, we contribute to students’ language development—we look forward to receiving your application!
