About us

Streets and parks are part of the Technology and Property Administration. It employs 130 dedicated and competent employees who together are responsible for the planning, construction, operation and development of Umeå municipality's public spaces - streets, roads, parks, pedestrian and cycle paths, bridges and squares. The activities also include traffic planning, exercise of authority, GIS, administration and transport services. Our mission is to create an attractive, safe and sustainable living environment for the municipality's residents.

About the job

As head of operations, you have overall responsibility for the business, its deliveries and development. The role is both strategic and operational and requires confident leadership to provide direction, stability and commitment. You will report to the Technical Director and be part of the management team.

The role includes:

• Leading and developing the business together with subordinate managers
• Overall responsibility for planning, operation, maintenance and development with responsibility for budget, results, for the business's deliveries and its goal achievement
• Responsible for staff, skills supply and work environment and to create an attractive workplace
• Ensure long-term sustainable operations and pursue strategic development issues
• Represent the business externally and internally, in dialogue with politicians,

  other administrations, authorities, citizens and contractors

Who are you?

We are looking for you who are a confident, stable and clear leader with the ability to see the big picture. You translate strategy into action, drive change and development and ensure follow-up and results over time. You find it easy to build relationships, create trust and lead activities in a complex and politically controlled context. You express yourself well in Swedish in speech and writing and have a B driving license.

To succeed in the position, we see that you have:

• Relevant college or university education in civil engineering, engineering, road and water or equivalent work experience
• Several years of experience as a manager with responsibility for both employees and budget
• Experience in technical management, operation and maintenance, contracts and procurement
• Experience in strategic management work
• Experience in media contact

It is an advantage if you have experience in leading other managers, experience in community building work and if you have previously worked in public administration or politically controlled organization.

The position is security classified and therefore requires Swedish citizenship.
