Open Preschool is a meeting place for children and parents. Here, children and parents can socialize, make new connections, and enjoy a pleasant time together. Our staff are trained educators who are happy to listen and offer support regarding any questions or concerns you may have about parenting.
We are part of the social services’ First Line and Family Centers, with a mission to collaborate with other professionals who work with children and parents in the area, such as midwives, child health nurses, and social workers. Our work is guided by a child-centered approach that prioritizes the child’s best interests. The Family Centers are operated in collaboration between Umeå Municipality’s social services and Region Västerbotten’s primary care.
The open preschool is designed to promote children’s early language development and offers support to newly arrived families to help them integrate into Swedish society and the education system. In addition to the open preschool’s regular hours, we are tasked with offering targeted interventions to families with identified needs. This mission involves basing our work on the families’ needs and coordinating our efforts with one or more stakeholders, such as social workers, child health psychologists, child health center nurses, and midwives. Some of the support measures are means-tested and are monitored in accordance with the Social Services Act.
