The Education Administration is responsible for preschool, preschool class, elementary school, special education elementary school, and after-school care in the municipality. The operations are divided into three leadership teams: F-6 Southwest, F-6 Northeast, and grades 7–9. Each management team is led by a district manager.

We are now looking for a principal for Berghemskolan!

Berghemskolan is an F–6 school with approximately 250 students. With its proximity to Gammlia, the Stadsliden outdoor recreation area, and Bräntberget, there are plenty of opportunities for exciting outdoor activities. Qualified teachers with extensive experience work here, and the after-school staff are also actively involved in school activities.

Berghem School is one of Umeå Municipality’s training schools, which means that during the school year, it hosts student teachers as part of their practical training program (VFU).

Your Responsibilities

As principal, you are responsible for staff, the work environment, and finances. You will lead and develop educational activities in accordance with applicable guidelines and work to create the best possible conditions for students’ learning, development, and achievement of learning goals.

The role involves:

• Educational leadership: You will drive and develop educational activities and ensure high-quality instruction.
• Work Environment and Staff Management: You will lead, motivate, and develop the school’s staff and create a positive and safe work environment.
• Student health and safety: You are responsible for close and preventive student health efforts where every student is given the opportunity to achieve their goals.
• Operational and financial responsibility: You are responsible for the school’s budget, resource allocation, systematic quality assurance, and goal achievement.
• Collaboration: You will build strong relationships with students, parents and guardians, school administrators, and the local community in Umeå

You will be part of the leadership team for Elementary School F-6 Northeast and report to the area manager. The role is carried out in close collaboration with other school leaders in the area to create the conditions for equitable education and sustainable operational development.

About You

To succeed and thrive in the role of principal, you must demonstrate confident, stable, and development-oriented leadership. The role requires a strong ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, to build and maintain trusting relationships, and to exercise situational leadership based on the needs of the organization and its employees. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements for the position:

• A college degree in education (e.g., a teaching or special education degree)
• Experience as an assistant principal or principal, and thus experience in school administration and educational leadership
• Completed or ongoing state-certified principal training
• A good understanding of systematic quality assurance and the school’s governing documents
• The ability to express yourself well, both verbally and in writing, in Swedish.

Desirable:

• Documented experience in successful change management.
