The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independent lives.

Cirkelgatan and Vintergatan are both residential facilities for children under Section 9, Paragraph 8 of the LSS—specialized housing for children and youth with disabilities. Staff are available around the clock to provide support and care tailored to each child’s individual needs. We offer a safe home environment where children have the opportunity for social interaction, personal development, and meaningful activities, both inside and outside the residence. Together, we work to foster inclusion, strengthen the children’s independence, and provide them with the best possible daily life.

We are now looking for a support teacher!

Your Responsibilities

As a support teacher at the children’s residential home, you will primarily work at Cirkelgatan, where you will support the children in their daily lives and help create a safe and nurturing environment. In addition to your daily work, you’ll play an important role in supporting colleagues with documentation tasks. This includes providing guidance on creating and following up on implementation plans, action plans, and other documentation. When needed, you’ll also support the staff at Vintergatan as a support teacher, in consultation with your manager.

The role also includes supporting the children both during the day and at night based on their individual needs. You will maintain ongoing contact with guardians and collaborate closely with colleagues, your manager, and other relevant parties.

Important Information

• There is externalizing behavior at the facility.
• Work hours are scheduled during the day, evenings, and weekends. In disability care, we collaborate with other programs on joint planning.

About You

We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference for our service users and who has strong educational skills. To succeed and thrive in this role, you must be a good team player and flexible. Of course, you interact professionally with the children, their families, and other stakeholders. You’re committed, share our values, and want to work with your manager and colleagues to develop and achieve our goals. Since the children are energetic, you’ll also need to be physically agile and energetic. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.

In order to communicate with clients, colleagues, and other networks, write and review

care documentation, and receive medication delegation, you must have a good command of the

Swedish language, both spoken and written.

Requirements

• Post-secondary education consisting of at least 200 higher vocational education (YH) credits, a degree in special education, or other equivalent higher vocational education. Alternatively, 60 college credits in relevant courses related to disability care. Programs and/or courses with a clear focus on working with individuals with intellectual, cognitive, or mental disabilities. For example, in the areas of:

  - Ethical approaches

  - Educational theories and methods

  - Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)

  - Cognitive support

  - Coaching approaches

• Experience working in LSS services.
• Class B driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with children, preferably those with disabilities.
• Experience with challenging/disruptive behaviors.
• Experience with epilepsy.
