We have a shared strategy for education in our municipality: to create a cohesive educational pathway that contributes to greater equity, improved academic outcomes, and attractive educational opportunities. Here, all children, young people, and adults should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and develop their knowledge and skills. We know that this depends on dedicated, knowledgeable, and professional staff who provide high-quality instruction. We make a difference every day and are proud of our mission. We have Sweden’s most important job—our mission is to instill hope for the future in young people.
Student health services in preschool and elementary school operate in teams consisting of a school nurse, school counselor, school psychologist, special education teacher, and principal. We operate in accordance with the intent of the Education Act. Student health services should primarily focus on health promotion and prevention—at the individual, group, and organizational levels—to support students in achieving their educational goals.
Do you want to make a difference for students with language vulnerabilities? Then this might be the job for you! The Student Health Services, Center of Excellence for Language and Communication, is seeking a dedicated special education teacher who wants to help develop language support initiatives in Umeå Municipality’s schools.
Your Responsibilities
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team alongside other special education staff and speech-language pathologists, tasked with supporting schools in their efforts to ensure language accessibility. Through training and guidance for teachers and educational staff, you will help promote students’ health and learning in relation to instruction and policy documents. It goes without saying that you will take into account students’ perspectives and their opportunities for participation and influence in their education. Part of your role is to support schools in implementing and working toward established goals for language development and accessibility, as well as to follow up on and evaluate these efforts.
When working with individual students, this may involve providing support in assessing language needs and recommending interventions within both regular instruction and special education. This is done in close collaboration with the relevant teachers and student health teams on behalf of the principal, who leads and sets the framework for these efforts. Your role offers excellent opportunities for professional development and the chance to help shape special education interventions.
About You
We are looking for someone with a genuine commitment to students’ development and learning. You are solution-oriented, flexible in your work, and confident in your professional role. Furthermore, you have strong collaboration skills and are communicative, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and parents alike. You also have fluent spoken and written proficiency in Swedish. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
