The Labor Market and Integration Department is responsible for the integration of new arrivals, labor market issues, and the municipality’s responsibility for employment and social activities in the City of Umeå. As part of the Labor Market and Integration Department, we operate “Arenas for Trial,” where we provide work training placements for participants in need of work-oriented rehabilitation and/or workplace-based activities. The program combines social sustainability with extensive recycling and environmental efforts. Through meaningful work tasks, a clear structure, and individualized support, we create opportunities for people to develop their work skills and strengthen their path toward self-sufficiency, while also contributing to a more sustainable Umeå.

Arenor för prövning

Arenor för prövning operates based on two main missions: workplace-based activities in the form of job training/internships and upcycling. This means we offer workplaces for participants who need support to move toward self-sufficiency—and the work tasks are part of the reuse activities that take place. The workplace-based activities are carried out in collaboration with, for example, Social Services, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Public Employment Service, Region Västerbotten, and the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, while the upcycling work is carried out in collaboration with Vakin, ABC Economic Association, and internally within the Municipality of Umeå.

At the heart of our operations are the Returbutiken and Byggåterbruket. With a total retail space of approximately 1,900 square meters, we are among the largest reuse stores in Norrland. Our premises are stocked with items such as clothing, furniture, bicycles, household goods, books, toys, movies, music, paintings, and building materials.

Your Responsibilities

As a facility services supervisor, you’ll combine professional facility services work with supporting participants in their workplace-based activities.

You’ll work closely with participants in their day-to-day activities, introducing, demonstrating, and instructing them in various cleaning tasks. By creating structure, providing clarity, and serving as a good role model, you’ll contribute to the participants’ development, learning, and increased independence. You will also serve as a source of support and a sounding board in daily work and collaborate with supervisors to monitor the participants’ progress.

Our participants have different backgrounds, circumstances, and support needs. Some aim to work in the facility management industry, while others primarily need to develop their work skills, routines, and work habits. Therefore, you need to feel confident interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and be able to tailor your support to each individual’s circumstances.

Job responsibilities include, among other things:

• Practical work in professional facility management
• Introduction, instruction, and supervision of participants
• Training and guidance in cleaning methods, materials, ergonomics, and workplace safety
• Planning and monitoring of work tasks and quality.
• Sales, cashier duties, and customer service

The program is characterized by flexibility and collaboration, which means that other duties may arise based on the program’s needs. To meet the need for more jobs, the business is working to develop and expand its work processes. Supervisors may therefore be required to work in other areas and at locations other than the business’s regular address.

The position may also involve driving a car or light truck.

The job involves recurring physically demanding tasks, which requires that you be in good physical condition. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Class B driver’s license.
• Documented experience in mentoring, supporting, or guiding people.
• Documented experience in customer service and service-oriented work.
• Professional experience in facility management.
• Good command of spoken and written Swedish.
• Valid police background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• SRY training or other relevant training/certification in facility maintenance
• Forklift license and/or experience operating a wheel loader
• Training or experience in coaching, counseling, or social work
• Knowledge of additional languages and/or Swedish Sign Language
• Extended Class B driver’s license (B96) or Class BE driver’s license.

Employment Type

A permanent, full-time position, starting as soon as possible by mutual agreement. Work hours are scheduled for day/evening shifts and weekends. A probationary period may apply.
