Are you the one?

The Labor Market and Integration Department is responsible for the integration of new arrivals, labor market issues, and the municipality’s responsibility for employment and social activities in the City of Umeå. We play a key role in promoting social sustainability and inclusion, and we support people on their path to employment or education. At the same time, we help employers meet their workforce needs and contribute to the development of inclusive workplaces. Our mission is to foster hope for the future.

As part of the Labor Market and Integration Department, we operate “Arenas for Trial,” where we provide work training placements for participants in need of work-oriented rehabilitation and/or workplace-based activities. The program combines social sustainability with extensive recycling and environmental initiatives. Through meaningful work tasks, a clear structure, and individualized support, we create opportunities for people to develop their work skills and strengthen their path toward self-sufficiency, while also contributing to a more sustainable Umeå.

We are now looking for a supervisor who wants to help make a difference every day.

Arenor för prövning

Arenor för prövning operates based on two main missions: workplace-based activities in the form of job training/internships and upcycling. This means we offer workplaces for participants who need support to move toward self-sufficiency—and the work tasks are part of the upcycling activities that take place. The workplace-based activities are carried out in collaboration with, for example, Social Services, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Public Employment Service, Region Västerbotten, and the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, while the upcycling work is carried out in collaboration with Vakin, ABC Economic Association, and internally within the Municipality of Umeå.

At the heart of our operations are the Returbutiken and Byggåterbruket. With a total retail space of approximately 1,900 square meters, we are among the largest reuse stores in Norrland. Our premises are stocked with items such as clothing, furniture, bicycles, household goods, books, toys, movies, music, paintings, and building materials.

Your Responsibilities

As a supervisor at Arenor för prövning, you play a central role in leading and developing the organization. The role encompasses both work-oriented rehabilitation and the thrift store, where you’ll work alongside supervisors, participants, and partners to create the conditions necessary for both the participants’ development and a smoothly running operation.

Your responsibilities include, among other things:

  • Planning, coordinating, and following up on daily operations.
  • Working closely with participants and providing support as they progress toward employment or education.
  • Be responsible for planning, implementing, documenting, and following up on work training and workplace-based activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding participants’ work training and workplace-based activities, as well as other assignments.
  • Ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with applicable procedures and quality requirements, and contribute to a safe and well-functioning work environment.
  • Be responsible for certain administrative tasks and purchasing within the operations.
  • Plan and prioritize resources and tasks based on the operation’s needs and ensure a smooth workflow within the reuse operation.
  • Contribute to the practical work and development efforts within the operation.

You are responsible for welcoming and orienting participants, as well as planning, implementing, documenting, and following up on participants’ workplace-based activities. In collaboration with employment counselors, supervisors, and other relevant stakeholders, you will monitor participants’ progress, identify strengths, areas for development, and any potential barriers to rehabilitation, and contribute to planning and follow-up. The work aims to create conditions for participants to develop their work capacity and take steps toward an external workplace in order to achieve the goal of employment or further education.

The work involves, within the framework of the program’s mission and conditions, creating opportunities for participants to develop their work capacity through meaningful tasks and practical on-the-job training. To meet the need for more workplaces, the program is working to develop and expand its work activities. As a result, supervisors may be required to work in other areas and at locations other than the program’s regular address.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organized, solution-oriented, and confident in their professional role. You communicate clearly, build strong relationships, and have a genuine interest in supporting people who are far removed from the job market. You recognize participants’ strengths, work in a goal-oriented manner, and collaborate effectively with both colleagues and external partners to achieve shared goals. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements

  • A college degree with a focus on social work, behavioral sciences, rehabilitation, or education.
  • Experience working with people in need of support, such as work-oriented rehabilitation, mental health issues, and disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with the labor market, including the conditions required in the workplace and ways to establish oneself in the workforce.
  • Experience with coordination and individualized documentation.
  • Class B driver’s license.
  • Strong proficiency in spoken and written Swedish.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with government agencies and organizations.
  • Experience in retail, recycling, or construction-related work, preferably in combination with work trials.
  • Training in SE/ST, MI, or coaching.
  • Forklift certification, B96 or BE driver’s license.

Employment Type

This is a permanent, full-time position, to begin as soon as possible by mutual agreement. A probationary period may apply.
