Are you the one?

The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through close collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently. Here, you get to be part of something meaningful every day; it’s a job where you meet people who give back at least as much as you invest—often even more.

Vintergatan is a residential facility for children under Section 9, Paragraph 8 of the Act Concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (LSS), which opened in August 2025. The facility is home to two children with intellectual disabilities and autism. The facility is staffed by a total of 12 employees, 6 of whom work night shifts and 6 of whom work days, evenings, and weekends. We work closely with guardians, schools, nurses, and occupational therapists to jointly provide the best possible support for the children.

Your Responsibilities

With us, you’ll work closely with your manager and colleagues to provide the children with individually tailored support based on their needs. This support includes both personal care and assistance with recreational activities as well as other aspects of daily life. The role also involves contributing to a safe and well-functioning home environment through practical tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and other common household chores.

The work involves close collaboration with guardians, family members, and the school to ensure continuity and create favorable conditions for the children’s development and well-being. You are also responsible for transporting the children to and from school. Administering medication is part of the job, and since one of the children has epilepsy, it is important that you feel confident following procedures and taking action when necessary.

Challenging situations and disruptive behaviors may occur in the workplace.

Work hours are scheduled during the day, evenings, and weekends. Joint planning takes place between our operations within Disability Care.

About You

As a person, you are confident, curious, and committed. You have strong collaboration skills and a professional demeanor toward clients, colleagues, and other networks surrounding our clients. It is important that you share our values, work toward set goals, strive for continuous improvement, and take responsibility for the shared work environment. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

In order to communicate with clients, colleagues, and other networks, write and review care documentation, and be authorized to administer medication, you must have a good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
